Contact hours: 5 hour per week (2 hours lecture, 3 hours laboratory)

Prerequisite: NONE

Description:
This course deals with the study of the basic principles, operations and
applications of semiconductor diode, zener diode and bipolar junction transistors.

2. Learning Outcomes

LO1. Identify symbols and terminals, construction and characteristic of a semiconductor

diode.

LO2. Demonstrate and describe forward and reverse bias, interpret the voltage-current
characteristic of a PN junction diode and actual testing of diode using ohmmeter.

LO3. Develop working knowledge of the diode in a variety of configurations for the area of
applications such as series, parallel, and parallel and series configurations, rectifiers,
gates, clippers and clampers.

LO4.Design a simple zener- voltage regulator in the effect of fluctuating input voltage and
variable load.

LO5. Demonstrate the basic construction and operation of a bipolar junction transistors, and how
the junction of a transistor is properly biased for an amplifier operation.

LO6. Analyze the biased and operating point by calculating the current and voltage drop across
component to the different types of amplifiers.
