BAHAY NA BATO

INTRODUCTION

When you visit intramuroz you see pride example of architecture of that era, so para
kanaring nasa panahin ng kastila, what we all see is now is a reconstructed Spanish
colonial architecture it was during the Spanish colonial period that we traveled from
bahay kubo, to bahay na bato,. We are group 3 presenting the bahay na bato.

When the Spaniard reach the Philippines garnishing a cross and a sword, and when
they took provation of the island the first order of business was to secure the in
settlement and build a metropolis .

In 1571 the spanish took over the charred remains of the settlement abandoned by
Raja Sulaiman, the chieftain of Manila ,

Reconstruction was immediately commence, they border the city quarter with a
spike log palisades and built a civil and secure structure of wood , bamboo and
thatch .

Which in time gave way into a stone fortified metropolis, the Spanish small city
Intramuroz.

In 1583, the city was consumed by fire , The flames spread all over Manila,
destroying many houses and structures of the same simple materials. Along with the
Cathedral of Manila, the Bishop’s palace was destroyed including all important
church papers and records. Making an official decree that all new building be
constructed of stones or tiles.

After earthquake

The devastation resulted into the invention of the hybrid type of construction,
Arquitectura Mestiza .instead of using nails . wooden tag and ducktail joints
connected the wooden structure together .
Moving on to accomplish the territorial and spiritual take over the colonial space was
redesign according to anurbanizing program known as reduccion ,

REDUCCION Moving small groups of Filipino settlements into one, large town. This
was to regulate the Filipinos, and teach them the basics of Christianity,
