8. Australian students liking towards mathematics and science have decreased. What
can we do about that?
You got to talk about what you have done here. You have to say that you have done
the Westpac maths competition and that you enjoyed it. Tell them you have also
done science related competitions like the titration competitions, science and
engineering challenge, UNSW science competition, Big science competition. And tell
the interviewer that you enjoyed these activities so they should encourage them at
schools.
9. The forum is going to introduce you to a lot of new technology and new discussions
and lectures. How would you react and handle topics that you do not know?
They want you to say that you would listen to everyone and ask them if you don’t
understand and listen and listen as much as you can.
10.What are your hobbies?
Say something different and interesting. Don’t say reading. Say dancing, cooking and
sciency hobbies like bird watching, travelling, dissecting frogs.
If you can answer these questions, have good at least two personal references and lots of
certificates from sport, music and science and maths competitions you should be fine.
Always smile
Good Luck!
I was a successful applicant and interviewee at the national youth science. I have
also been a interviewer for three years and I know that anyone can attend this
forum if you the answers to these questions. It is true you should be academic but
your grades do not have to be spectacular. DUX students have missed out on the
opportunity to attend the NYSF while their peers have attended it because the
mastered the interview questions. So best of luck. DO your best and do not worry if
you miss out because it is nothing more than another learning experience. And
people who miss out may later excel in more prestigious careers. Just blitz the
interview
