TASKS PERFORMED

3.1 Work Done During Internship

• On the first day of internship we have visited the site, where they allowed us to look clearly
about what all the works going on site.

• Next they given the necessary drawings plans of center line diagram, foundation plan, plinth
beam plan and reinforcement details plan.

• Then they have guided us about the site and what all the works going on site

• We have gone through the entire plan and clearly studied all the plans they had given.

• Then we are allowed to check the levels of the plinth beam and other necessary data.

• We have cross checked the levels with leveling instrument

• The foundation laid is raft foundation, which was completed before our internship started.

• The depth of foundation is about 2.4m from Ground level.

• The concrete used is M30 grade from RMC (Ready Mixed Concrete) Plant.

• The concreting is done with pumping system of concreting.

• While concreting for the foundation field test are conducted on concrete like (slump test) and
blocks are prepared to carry out other test like compressive strength for 7 and 28 days curing.

• After concreting curing is done for 2 weeks by watering and laying wet gunny bags on
surface of concrete. Simultaneously other cleaning and necessary works carried out.

• After that plinth beam reinforcement and shuttering was done when our internship started.
• Then we did the levelling, and then the construction of UCR masonry was done and after that
column reinforcement before that we saw the bar bending process. And the site engineer
explained us about two leg and one leg stirrups.

• For column reinforcement first the 32mm dia bars lapping was done as the requirement of the
bar length was too high as the building is G+7 and it is also the commercial building.

• And then the reinforcement was done and then the formwork was done for columns and then
the concreting was done using the vibrators.

• After 2 days the de –shuttering was done.

• And we also saw the column starter .And got to know why they are essential and how they
are done.

• Finally we saw the staircase shuttering and reinforcement.

• These were the things we studied and saw them practically happening.

3.2 Study of Plans

3.3 Observations of Foundations

Foundation is a lower portion of building structure that transfers or distribute loads uniformly to
the soil is known as foundation. The foundation laid is raft foundation .Raft foundation is a large
concrete slab which can support a number of columns and walls. The depth of foundation is about
2.4m from Ground level. The concrete used is M30 grade from RMC (Ready Mixed Concrete)
Plant. The concreting is done with pumping system of concreting. While concreting for the
foundation field test are conducted on concrete like (slump test) and blocks are prepared to carry
out other test like compressive strength for 7 and 28 days curing. After concreting, curing is done
for 2 weeks by watering and laying wet gunny bags on surface of concrete.Simultaneously other
cleaning and necessary works carried out.

3.5 Observations of Column

Column is a vertical structural member designed to transmit a compressive load.A column

transmits the load from ceiling/roof slab and beam, including its self-weight to the foundation
uniformly. In site all columns used are rectangular and square column.

4.8 Beam details:

o Various beams with different sizes which takes different loads.

o Reinforcements are 16mm to 32mm used.

o Minimum reinforcement of the beam, Astmin= (0.85*b*d/fy)

o Maximum reinforcement of the beam, Astmax=4% of b*D

o Development length in the beam, Ld= (0.87*fy*φ)/ (4*τbd) or (50 times diameter
of max. Reinforcement given in the beam).

o Cover for beam is kept 25mm.

4.9 Column details:

o Various columns with various diameters of reinforcements and various sizes, it

has 2-legged stirrups. For continuous of the bars they welded some short bars.

o Reinforcements used are 16mm to 25mm.

o Minimum reinforcement of column, Astmin= 0.8% of area of column

o Maximum reinforcement of the column, Astmax=6% of b*w.

o Development length in the column, Ld= (0.87*fy*φ)/ (4*τbd) or (60 times diameter
of max. Reinforcement given in the column).

o Cover for column is kept 40mm.

4.10 Staircase details:

o Dog legged staircase type is used in multi-purpose cyclone shelter project, with
300mm thread and 150mm rise (Total 24 No’s of steps in flight).

o Main bars #12mm @ 150mm c/c.

o Distribution bars #8mm @ 150mm c/c.

o Minimum reinforcement is 0.12% of cross section.

o Cover for waist slab is kept 20mm.

4.11 Concreting work:

Concrete mix used is M25 grade, proportion of the mix is 1:1:2. Cement grade 43 been used. Mix
preparation was by mechanical mixer with volume batching. Compaction is done by needle vibrator.
Water-cement ratio used is 0.45 to 0.5 for the workability.

4.12 Curing:

o Cuing for slab is done by ponding method for 21days.

o Column cured by coving wet gunny bags for 14days.

o Beams are cured by watering with lower slab and also the portion of slab during
curing by ponding.
