Preventive Dentistry &Oral Health Program

Program Description

The program is concerned with preventive and curative dentistry, but more directly on public health
preventive dentistry. It aims to reduce the incidence and prevalence of dental caries, including the
reduction of periodontal diseases. The major beneficiaries are the pregnant mothers and children.
Benefits derived from the program are a healthy population who could work at their full capacity towards the
fulfillment of a meaningful and productive life.

Goals of the Preventive Dentistry and Oral Health Program:

1. Reducing oral disease burden and disability, especially in poor and marginalized populations.
2. Promoting healthy lifestyles and reducing risk factors to oral health that arise from
environmental, economic, social and behavioral causes.
3. Developing oral health systems that equitably improve oral health outcomes, respond to
people's legitimate demands, and are financially fair.
4. Framing policies in oral health, based on integration of oral health into national and community
health programs.
5. Promoting oral health as an effective dimension for development policy of society.

Strategies / Objectives
1. To increase BOHC coverage to 6 – 15 months infants

Activities:
a) Unang Ngipin Patibayin Project

1. Courtesy call with Mayor Joey Medina


2. Launching of UNP project on September 22, 2014 at Municipal lobby of Pateros
3. Orientation of UNP project with Pateros health Dentist
4. Orientation of Parent leaders, Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) regarding recruitment
4 ps children ages 6 to 15 months ( 250 infants ) and 33 months (150 children)
5. Seminar on Calibration of Unang Ngipin Patibayin Project
6. Start of recruitment of UNP children on October 22, 2014 at the Barangay hall of San
pedro
7. Then every Tuesday is UNP day at Moises R. Flores Health center which lasted for 3
years and will end on January 30, 2018
8. Evaluation of UNP on JANUARY 2017

Since Pateros has limited budget so, for the sustainability of the Unang Ngipin
Patibayin Project. I was able to get funds for:
a. GAD (Gender and Development) project which is very hard to get funds from
them , but I was able to obtain 1000 Oral Health kit worth 100 pesos each
which contains ( toothbrush, toothpaste,towel,soap and plastic mug and
pouch) with the:
GAD mandate - 87% prevalence rate of dental caries among children
of Pateros.
Objective: To improve Oral Health condition of children under 5 years old.

b. CIPH( Citiwide Investment Plan for Health) which I was able to obtain 50,000
pesos worth of fluoride varnish with the same mandate and objectives

c. WFP ( work and financial plan )of LGU for the continuity of the program and will
be added to the health services after the UNp project I obtained 120,000 pesos for
all dental supplies needed for the dental program

d. AOP ( annual operational plan) for DOH which I planned for glass Ionomer,
sealant and fluoride varnish which and received 20 box of pulpdent sealant, 7 box
of fuji 7 and 10 packs of ketac molar and 5 box of Ivoclar glass Ionomer cement

ACTIVITiES b) Consultative meeting with Daycare and kindergarten teachers of Pateros every

c.) Collection of Data and Analysis

d. Conduct toothbrushing drill for all 17 daycare centers and 6 kindergarten school

children during school days

e. BATANG BIBO Orally fit Child contest – Search for Orally fit child of
the 17 daycare centers under CIPH funds held October 21, 2016.

OBJEcTIVES – To promote good oral hygiene among daycare students


f. H.O.P.E caravan on medical mission for all 4p’s Patients 4 mission for
the year 2017

g. Healthy Teeth for a Healthier Life- theme for Healthy Pateros week
celebration held last December 4 to 8 , 2017 funded by LGU and part HSDP
of DOH.

OBjECTIVES: to promote oral health care and reduce prevalence of dental


caries among school children.
h. Distribution of Oral Health kit among Kinder students of Pateros Elementary
School held during Oral Health Month of 2017 under CIPH fund of DOH
i. Dental Bus outreach every Friday given by DOH central office

2. To control Oral health risk among young people ( 10 – 24 yrs. Old )

a) Poster Making contest held at Pateros Municipal High School during


Oral health month 2017 funded by LGU fund
b) Lecture/counselling on Risk Factors on oral health on 3 public High
School of Municipality of pateros

3. To improve the Oral condition of pregnant women by 20% on 2019

a) Chairside counseling of pregnant women


b) Gandang Buntis, Gandang Ngiti 2016 and 2017 funded by GAD

OBJECTiVES – To promote proper oral hygiene among pegnant women


and to their upcoming child
