Monitoring sales

What skills and knowledge do you consider are most important to a manager?
1. Good communication
Having good Communication skills is probably the most important skill of all for managers to have. Unless you can properly communicate with
those you supervise, the rest of the skills really won't matter. In numerous types of management tasks, the most common and first thing that
needs to be done is to communicate your opinions, expectations and needs to others. You shouldn't be a Manager if you don't enjoy working
Assessment Task 4 of BSBWOR501.

with people. You also need to be able to send others the right messages and make sure that they understand you. The type of power that you use
for persuading others on your views is also very important.

2. Good Organization
Probably the second most important skill that you can have as a Manager is the ability to organise. You need to be able to come up with a plan
and then schedule, organise and follow it. This also involves understanding your company's processes and rules as well as among individuals.
You must be able to predict what will happen and at what time.

3. Team Building
Good Managers know how to keep their teams intact. The well being of team members does not benefit from having competition within the
team. However, competition between teams can be very stimulating and healthy. If one of the team members speeds ahead and leaves the rest of
the members behind without helping them, the team will most likely fail. A good Manager will notice these irregularities very easily. He or she
will attempt to correct the situation through having discussions with the team, mostly through listening to members. To a great extent, a
successful and healthy team relies on the trust between members and with the Manager. If a Manager is able to build trust systematically, the
team members will feel much more committed and appreciated.

4. Leadership
It isn't enough to just listen to the problems of coworkers. A good Manager needs to solve these problems and prove that he or she is committed
to the goals of the team. It is also the Manager's responsibility to define goals along with team members and then assign responsibility to various
team members clearly. A good Manager will have a clear vision in terms of the direction he or she wants the team to be headed in. Team
members need to be 'infected' with this vision so that everyone is headed in the same direction.

5. Ability to Deal with Changes Effectively

Many Managers are thoroughly familiar with the entire working process. This allows them to do things in an almost automatic manner. A good
Manager is adaptable and flexible. When faced with obstacles, he or she has the ability to react quickly. Stress doesn't prevent the Manager from
making the right decisions for the team and company.

What skills and knowledge might be important to acquire based on industry trends?
 Coffee Flavour Profiles
 Production, Processing, & Roasting
 Availability to work within opening hours (including weekends and holidays)
 Excellent communication skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team
 Customer service attitude

Promote company services

What skills and knowledge do you consider are most important to a manager?
Interpersonal skills
Management jobs are all about people and being able to build successful relationships is integral. If you want to lead a team you'll first need to
earn the respect of your colleagues and to do this you need to know how to effectively deal with other people.

Setting time aside to get to know your team members on both a personal and professional level, perhaps through social activities or team-
building training, while still maintaining professional boundaries, will go a long way to earning their respect.

You need to demonstrate your managerial qualities and authority while maintaining the ability to play your part as a member of a team.

Communication and motivation

Effective leaders must master all forms of communication including written, verbal and listening skills. As a team manager you're the line of
communication between frontline staff and senior management, so you'll need to be able to communicate with a variety of people from entry-
level employees to heads of departments and CEOs in a number of different ways such as via email and social media, over the phone and in
presentations, meetings and one-to-ones.

As a leader you'll need to establish a trusting relationship with your employees so they feel comfortable sharing information with you and vice
versa. To ensure that lines of communication remain open you'll need to make yourself readily available and accessible to your employees to
discuss any issues or concerns that arise. Putting in place an open door policy or weekly or monthly team meetings should facilitate this. When
communicating let your staff know that they matter by keeping eye contact, smiling and listening attentively.

Projecting an open, positive attitude at work goes a long way to creating a happy and healthy work environment. Don't shut yourself off or put
yourself on a pedestal. Simple things such as active encouragement, recognising achievements and taking an interest in the lives of your
employees boosts morale and ensures that staff feel valued by the company. If people are a product of their environment, a positive workplace
creates happy, motivated employees.
Assessment Task 4 of BSBWOR501.

Organisation and delegation

On a day-to-day basis a manager must juggle multiple responsibilities so excellent organisational skills are vital. You will need to manage your
own workload, oversee the work of other employees, attend meetings and training sessions, carry out appraisals and review company policies.
Sloppy working practices, tardiness and a general lack of organisational ability will not be tolerated at this level and could set a bad example to
your staff. Effective organisational skills reduce stress, save time and ensure that important deadlines are met.

Many managers ease their own busy workload by delegating tasks to colleagues. To do this effectively you need to analyse and identify the skills
of your employees and assign duties to each depending on their skillset. Delegation is far from a sign of weakness and can in fact multiply the
amount of work that a manager can accomplish, while developing an employee's confidence and skills.

Forward planning and strategic thinking

It's a manager's job to think of the big picture, so as well as focusing on today's tasks and responsibilities you need to plan for the future. This
means setting priorities in line with company goals, reviewing systems and policies, and attending training and managing the CPD activities of
your team. As a strategic thinker you'll encourage innovation and change in order to make your team and the organisation as a whole more
productive and profitable.

What skills and knowledge might be important to acquire based on industry trends?
1. Data-driven marketing
Data is one of the most valuable assets a business has today. But on its own, data doesn’t deliver results. Businesses need the right people who
know how to leverage it to drive actionable results through the right technologies.
Required skills include:
 Testing and analytical techniques
 Metrics for measuring marketing performance
 Data gathering, interpretation and recognising quality data
 Data-driven strategy
 Cross-functional management
2. Analytics
Businesses want to keep and convert customers, through positive customer experiences. Data analytics can provide solutions to marketing
questions around customers, putting analytics skills at the top of the list of required skills. The ability to combine the right data with the right
techniques is vital for businesses today.
Required skills include:
 Assessing data viability and value
 Using data to identify patterns and trends
 Gaining insights from data
 Data management and processing
Assessment Task 4 of BSBWOR501.

 Using analytics tools

3. Data visualisation
A picture tells a thousand words. When it comes to interpreting and explaining the relationship between the volume and complexity of data sets
that businesses now rely on, visualisation and the tools around it help break down and communicate complex statistical notions. Software is
pushing visualisation capabilities out into the hands of business users.
Required skills include:
 Gaining insights from data
 Working with large amounts of information to see the ‘bigger picture’
 Using visualisation software and specialist data
 ‘Story-telling’ skills both written and oral
 Familiarity with specialist software as well as Excel

Networking review

Our paths first crossed several years ago when you spoke to my marketing class at the University of Mid Nebraska. At that time, you challenged
each of us to make a difference in the world and told us of your early struggles to not only obtain a degree but also launch your company.

Since that time, I've followed the rapid growth of your cutting-edge marketing firm. This past year I read that Edgie had been awarded an Addy
for the innovative marketing campaign you created for WarmStone Creamery.

Your advice to find an internship in my senior year was invaluable to me. Upon graduation, my mentor at that firm introduced me to ACB
Multimedia. For the past three years, I have worked in all facets of marketing: internet, multimedia, and print. I would now like to explore where
my education and experience would be of the greatest value to a firm located in the St. Louis area.

I do remember you telling us you would always be happy to answer questions, so I kept your business card. I will contact your secretary in a few
days to arrange a meeting at your convenience. I will gladly clear my schedule for whenever you are available. I look forward to seeing you
again and gaining your insight into my career path.
