Scope and delimitation:
The study will focus on Senior High
School Marine Transportation Students (Pre-
Baccalaureate). The researchers will select
respondents of 60 students from Grade 11
and 12 Marine Transportation students of
MPCF-LC. The study will be delimited to
Senior High School Students only and the
researchers will conduct a survey with the
chosen respondents through questionnaire
that will serve as their data gathering method
and the research data that will be used will
base on the results of the questionnaires
answered by the chosen respondents.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING AT THE
SECONDARY LEVEL
The study is all about the Relevance
of Maritime Education and Training at the
Secondary Level by Simone Britanna
Cunningham. The relevance of the maritime
Education and Training at the Secondary
level has been found to increase awareness
and to mitigate the trends, problems and
challenges influenced by philosophical and
sociological affecting the Maritime Industry.
Firstly, the study examines the merit
and purpose of secondary education, the
secondary curriculum; factor that may
require MET at the secondary level as well
as the effectiveness of early awareness of
maritime concepts to youth age, 11- 18
years. Secondly, a mixed method approach
was applied in collecting and analyzing data
through survey and interviews. Thirdly, the
finding reveals that the relevance of MET at
the secondary level is weighted by
geographical and economical as well as the
country’s interest in the industry, to bring
awareness and career opportunities.
The findings established the
stakeholders in some cases, lack awareness
of the industry and therefore do not
promulgate policies for implementing MET
at the secondary level. Further, the literature
has noted the lack of concentrated efforts in
promoting the industry to the youth. As
such, there is needed to know the laws in the
education system to reform the secondary
curriculum more relevant to the maritime

Maritime Education and Training - the
future is now
Maritime Education and Training
(MET) is a globally known education and
training system wherein it provides high
standard of education to those aspiring
seafarers. MET providers must be aware
of both current educational practices and the
wider environment within which education
operates. To some extent MET suggests that
the changes which are beginning to sweep
through the practice and provision of higher
education in general.
Education is rapidly becoming
globalized, massified and increasingly
treated as the commodity. Each of these
issues is examined before detailed
consideration is given to the implication for
both educators and providers of maritime
education and training. Following the
detailed considerations of the implication for
MET, the critical issue of how to turn these
challenges into opportunities is examined
and some solution are postulated.
This solution provides some insight
into how MET could its own future. The
study concludes that the providers of MET
do not start developing their own future in a
coherent, structured and systematic way then
other will impose it on them. [1]

Discussion
This study is titled “Readiness of the
Skillset Earned by Senior High School
Marine Transportation Students of Mariners’
Polytechnic Colleges Foundation Legazpi
City (MPCF-LC) to the Raised Standards of
the 21st Century in the Maritime Field”. The
purpose of this study is to know how marine
transportation students are ready and skilled
to the raised standards of the 21st Century in
maritime field. The study is timely because
people are losing initiative of being a great
seafarer and they do a maritime course
because they don’t have any choice but to
help students to pursue their dreams to be a
great seafarer.
The scope of this study revolved
only with Pre-Baccalaureate Marine
Transportation Grade 12 A&B. The total
number of respondents is fifty (50) that

came from both strand or class of Pre-
Baccalaureate Marine Transportation A&B.
The Researchers use checklist and
questionnaire. The data gathered is placed in
the appropriate table. Then, the researchers
used frequency, percentage and rank.
Findings
1. In question number 1, it shows that
Introduction to Marine Transportation, Rate
1 with 40 votes got the highest number
chosen by the respondents and Rate has got
the lowest with no votes. In Introduction to
Marine Engineer, Rate 2 with 12 votes got
the highest number of votes and Rate 3 got
the lowest with 2 votes. In Navigational
Watch 1, Rate 3 with 9 votes got the highest
number of votes and Rate 4 got the lowest
votes. And for Safety 1, Rate 4 with 9 got
the highest number of votes and Rate 2 got
the lowest number with 3 votes chosen by
the respondents.
2. In question number 2, it shows that the
highest number of votes choose by the
respondents are those who doesn’t have any
award with 22(44%) votes and With Highest
Honors got the lowest votes with 2(4%).
3. In question number 3, it shows that the

respondent is library with 37 votes and
Fitness Room got the lowest with 3 votes.
