STRATEGY #1
Join Viral Challenges and Trends

If you want to grow on TikTok you need to participate in challenges and the trends of the day,
week, or month.

It’s so easy to find them, just watch a couple of videos on your “For You” page and when you
see the same dance, song, moves over and over again, that’s a trend.

Pick that song and that movement and do it too. Since TikTok is inherently a musical centric
platform, taking a look at the top-performing songs being utilized by users is also a great
indication of what the trends are on the app.

STRATEGY #2
Diversify Hashtags
The key to virality on TikTok (and growth) is not an uncontrollable aspect of the algorithm.

Unless you are already an established business elsewhere on social media, people will most
likely NOT be searching for you on TikTok. Thus, you need to take control and bring your business
to them. This is done through the use of hashtags, which are the single most import metric
that can place your content on front of users.

If you have not yet, make sure your watch THIS VIDEO where I discuss how business are
currently leveraging the TikTok platform. I discuss the importance of diversifying your hashtags
between groups that are broad and niche-defined.

For example, if you were to upload a video for a real estate brokerage, you might include a few
popular hashtags like #foryou, #viralvideo, #fyp, etc. You might also research and include niche-
defined TikTok hashtags as well such as #realestatehumor #realtorlife, #realagents, etc.

If you are a location-based business, make the most of location-based hashtags and events.
For example, if you are a Chinese seafood restaurant based in the city of Seattle, use hashtags
that are actively trending in the greater Seattle area such as (at the time of writing this)
#seafoodseattle, #seattletiktok, #seattlecheck, etc.

PRO TIP: You want to limit the total number of hashtags that you use on any given video
to eight. Like Instagram, TikTok diverts more concentrated attention to the fewer
hashtags you have versus the more. It’s a quality versus quantity game.

STRATEGY #3
Viewdrop on Competitors
Viewdropping is the visual equivalent of eavesdropping. My team and I have a running list of
predominate global brands that we like to keep an eye on who are absolutely crushing the
TikTok platform in areas of both engagement and viral content.

Below are a few accounts that are extremely original and unique in the way they have chosen
to establish themselves on the app. Whoever is running their accounts does a great job of
varying the content with everything from relevant brant highlights to fun fan videos.

As you can see, there is quite a diverse mix of accounts so make sure you do your due
diligence and determine which accounts are relevant to your industry.

STRATEGY #4
Identify Your ‘Magic Hours’
Sharing new content at least twice a day will eventually get you a massive following,
because it will improve the exposure your videos are getting, but you also have to post
videos at the right time.

First, establish where your followers are. TikTok now offers the chance to turn your normal
user account into a Pro account. Pro accounts come with a set of new features, one of which
includes analytics. 

While still in your privacy and settings area, tap ‘analytics’ in the ‘accounts’ section. Tap on
the ‘followers’ tab and you’ll find details on your audience.

Get to know your audience and try to understand how frequently and at which hours they're
using the TikTok app. This will help you create a posting schedule that minimizes the
chances of posting videos during parts of the day when they get the least amount of
exposure.

STRATEGY #5
The T.E.E.N.S Content Factor
The method I’m about to give you is going to be a game changer for your content and how
you build an audience. This is something I’ve been teaching to my clients and throughout my
videos. What I’m going to give you here is a very powerful strategy that can help you
understand what you really need to be doing when it comes to growing on TikTok.

While the platform certainly has a much wider demographics than just teens, I’ve used this
word to create a new definition that will assist you in creating content the contributes to
long-term success.


 T - TRENDING
E - ENTERTAINING
E - ENGAGING
N - NICHE
S - SHORT

TRENDING - The most substantial growth on TikTok occurs from capitalizing on themes,
sounds, and actions that are trending on the platform. Thumb through the videos on the For
You Page and you’ll soon see some common themes or choreographed moves synced to track
in similar fashion to others. Do your best to take advantage of these as these are what
potentially millions of users are searching for.

ENTERTAINING - If your content is original, be sure it is not serious in its


nature. As I mentioned in THIS VIDEO, TikTok is a place for entertainment and
not subtle sales pitches. Your content should foster witty, hilarious, and satisfying actions that can
be integrated with educational elements as well. If you have ideas for TikTok content but don’t
reason them to be clever enough to post, consider looking at them through a different lens,
literally. TikTok includes many ’special effects’ that can speed up, slow down, warp, enhance,
mirror, desaturate, and do just about everything else to your visuals.

ENGAGING - You need to have an engaged audience on your account in order to grow long-term.
One of the pillars to building your fanbase quickly is to build a community around your account or
brand. In order to accomplish this, create content that encourages users to comment and input
their opinions (via polls or questions). Make it a priority to have an appropriate response rate so
that users know that you truly care about your fanbase.

NICHE - A jack of all trades is a master of none. If you already have an established business, then
you already have your niche and the next step is simply to expand onto the app. However, if you
are exclusively new to the TikTok platform, create your content around one central idea. For
example, I have an account that I helped a client grow to over 130,000+ followers that focuses on
uploading cleverly edited 15-second Google translate videos. He picked one idea and stuck with it.
Do try new ideas but always fall back on what works best with your fanbase and what content your
audience is proven to engage with.

SHORT - TikTok is not Instagram and Instagram is not YouTube. Different platforms are created for
different purposes and it’s up to the user and business to maximize these differences. One mistake
I’ve noticed with TikTok content that is intended to be ‘business’ oriented, is that far too much
information is compacted into a short 15-60 second videos. As TikTok allows rather short videos
in comparison to other platforms, make sure your content idea is one that can be effectively
communicated and showcased through TikTok’s time limit.
