Home connections
Counting on Starting with the big number and counting on. Like 6+3=9. Start at 6
and cout on 3 more.
Literacy connections: When you read with your Scholar, be sure to use the pictures to help
figure out unknown words. In addition to using pictures, ask your scholar to double check
that the letters/sounds in the word match what they are reading. You can also ask, “does
this make sense?” Have scholars find words in the text they know before they start
reading.
Math connections: Ask your Scholar to count some nickels and pennies with you as you
put them into your piggy bank! Start with the nickel and say “5” and then count on using
the pennies (ie. “5...6, 7, 8, 9!). Work on 3-D shapes. Help them understand the difference
between addition and subtraction.
