CHICKEN RUN
Chicken Run is an exceptional example of the skill and the maturity of the story line. Mrs
Tweedy's (Richardson) chicken farm is not making enough money. Her battery hens are on a go-
slow promotion and only produce enough eggs to save any one of them from ending up on the
dinner table. Bravely led by Ginger (Sawalha), the inside chickens have failed in all their escape
attempts. While Mrs Tweedy decides to spread into chicken pies, a super rooster, Rocky
(Gibson), drops into the chicken work area and Ginger is influenced that he can teach the hens to
fly away.
Chicken run is a really good movie in which the leadership is present at all times. Through all the
film, there are many characteristics and actions that differentiate the good leader from the bad
one. Since the beginning, when the hens are trying to escape from the farm, you can clearly see
several types of leaders in the film. The main leader (Ginger) is always telling everyone what to
do in order to try new ways of escaping; also, she is constantly sacrificing herself for her
followers, since she is the one that always give the first step in all the different ways they try to
escape and as the good leader she is, she does not mind getting caught and receives all the
punishment, with the intention of saving her followers. On the other hand, the woman that owns
the farm has a different leadership from the hen Ginger. She tries to force fear to her followers
and controls everyone in the farm by the use of a control list. Every day, she checks this list in
order to see if all the hens are giving eggs and for those who do not, and death is the punishment
for those hens which don’t give any egg. Another characteristic that she shows is that she only
cares for her, because she never considers everyone else´s feelings or points of view in the
decision making and as a result, she only uses her followers. A third type of leadership shown in
the film is the one from the rooster Rocky; he is a leader who first gains the sympathy from her
followers in order for them to do whatever he says, because they want to and feel comfortable

with and takes his leadership working hard, but also in a fun way. At the end, even though, he is
scared to face his own problems, he reconsiders, following his values and comes back to do what
it is right. In this farm it is very visible how all the hens work as a whole group in an organized
way and when they are motivated, things go really well. On the contrary, if one hen is worried or
slower than the others, she receives help and protection from her other partners.
They all have their roles in the team very specified, as well, and as a good leader, Ginger
consults others when taking important decisions. So easily we can say that Ginger is a supportive
leader. In addition, there are negotiation strategies that hens use in order to get what they want.
First, when Ginger helps Rocky, she gives him one condition to help him and threatens him:
either he teaches all the hens how to fly or he is turned in to the owner of the circus and back to
his past life. Then Rocky choose the first one that he will teach how to fly. Another time when
the negotiation strategies are present is when they make a deal with the mice: they give them
eggs and he mice get all the tools they needed to build the plane. Values are another important
lesson that can be taken from the movie: friendship, sacrifice, support, loyalty, keep one´s word,
hard work are some of the ones we could appreciate more clearly. In the end of the film, all the
hens can escape from that horrible farm where they had lived for ages thanks to a leader who had
vision and directed all of them to freedom. Personally, we think this is an excellent movie that
can show us how to be a good leader and reach that entire one wants: one that cares for his group
motivation, does not work alone and always takes care of the interests of the group instead of

Chicken Run also highlights women's leadership. Mrs Tweedy and Ginger are pitted against each
other and Mr Tweedy, the Colonel and Rocky are supporting players to the clash of two
powerful matriarchs.
Chicken run also gives information about how to take work by others. In this film
A bunch of chickens make many attempts to escape their cruel owner. After being shot out of
cannon, a circus rooster lands in the chickens' hut. The chickens think the rooster can teach them
to fly to freedom. Unable to fly, the rooster disappears, leaving the chickens to fend for them.
Unhappy with egg sales, the farmer buys a machine to turn her chickens into chicken pies. The
chickens build a flying machine and are able to escape before being turned into pieces.
Things are boring at the Tweedy Egg Farm. The day a chicken fails to lay an egg, she gets
slaughtered for her meat by Mr. and Mrs. Ginger convinced there's something more to life, and
tries to rally her compatriots to escape. Then Rocky, a flying rooster from the U.S. who has
escaped the circus, falls into the yard after injuring an arm. In exchange for hiding him from the
circus, Ginger and her friends ask him to teach them to fly so they can get away. But can they do
