To whoever it may concern,

A mentor for America Reads is a student with good communications skills to be able to talk with
the team and further develop plans for the student they are mentoring. Mentors should also be
patient with the children and learn to develop a relationship with them. Most importantly I
believe that a mentor should be a leader who can work well with other mentors and the entire
America reads program and can be a leader by demonstrating to the children a good example and
being a role model. That is why I am interested in this position, because I am a leader. I am a
first-generation high school graduate and college student. I have a big family which consists of
five brothers and two sisters. Being the older- sister I have had to assume the leadership role and
setting a good example for my younger siblings has always been very important to me.

My background working with kids consists of my recent work with Az kids think too as an
afterschool tutor for a title one school. I was responsible for eight kindergarten students. I was
able to assist in further educating the students in different subject areas as well as helping the
teacher develop fun activities that encouraged the students to participate and be motivated to
learn. My responsibilities included planning projects and organizing the agenda for the day as
well as reviewing the material the students learned in class. I really enjoyed this job and I believe
it has provided me for am seeking for something similar. Working with AZ kids think too helped
me realize that I aspire to become an elementary school teacher so, I recently changed my major
from psychology to elementary education.

My interest in this job is not only because of the commodity provided by it since I live on
campus. It is also because it is a way to remain involved with Arizona State University and help
future generations by being able to work with the students and be able to motivate them and
inspire them and help the team encourage them. I am sure that my resume will provide you with
a better comprehension of my qualifications. I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to work
for the America Reads team and learn. Thank you for taking me into consideration.
