CHAPTER III: Problem Presented

The counselee suffered from a bullying incident that occurred when she was transferred
from a private school to a public school when she was still in elementary. The counselee
received simultaneous threats from her bullies and would force her to give them the things they
wanted. Because of the said incident, she acquired physical injuries as well as emotional
distress. Even though she told the incident to her mom and her class adviser at that time tried
to resolve the incident, the bullying still occurred further on. She said that her bullies “lie
lowed” at first, then resumed to threatening her again. The situation prompted her to give them
money in order to stop them, only to no avail. The incident only stopped when she has been
transferred to another school again.
CHAPTER IV: Background

Jam Mikaela Maines is a student of Assemblywoman Felicita G. Bernardino Memorial

Trade School. She is a grade 11 student and taking up the HUMSS (Humanities and Social
Sciences). Despite being a victim of bullying, she grew up very well with the help of her family.

Maines admitted that her family played a huge role during her coping period. She
described her family as, “a typical family who at times disagrees with one another but resolves
misunderstandings with ourselves.” Her family stood as her support system during the incident
especially her mother whom she confided the incident with. She also described her environment
as “home sweet home because we can feel the love and care for each other, though, not mostly
in words but more in actions.
CHAPTER V: Assessment

Bullying is not something that should be taken lightly. It renders danger and long term
damages on the victims, especially if the incident was not resolved.

The incident had rendered the counselee with low self-esteem that leads to her poor
class performance while the bullying incident occurred. Although the teacher tried to handle
the situation, still suffered further from the incident until she was transferred again to another
school.

Aside from her mother, the counselee did not confide to anyone and never sought help
medically while coping up. She recovered from the incident with her own will and used it as a
motivation to be a better person today. Even though she had recovered from the incident, she
still has issues with trusting people, fearing that the incident might happen again.

The way she handled the situation may look ‘weak’ to other people but as a child who
was vulnerable, that could seem like the only way out of the situation. As you can see, the
bullying did not stop even though her class adviser handled the situation. The counselee tried
to control the situation by giving money to the bullies but still, the incident did not stop there.

This is why we should encourage children to be more vocal or to open up about the
situations that they are going through. We should not make them feel that their fear was invalid
or a burden to us.
CHAPTER VI: Recommendation

Even though the counselee said that she turned out fine years after the incident, it could
still leave her with psychological and emotional issues. There is no shame in seeking
professional help if needed, rather than handling it at oneself’s expense. As much as we care
about what other people would think, we should prioritize our own safety and well being.
