The Disaster Risk Reduction – Climate Change Adaptation & Mitigation (DRR- CCAM)

aims to minimalize the damage brought on by natural hazards like floods, typhoons & cyclones,

and earthquakes, through an ethical framework of prevention. Disasters often follow natural

hazards. Disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation (CCA) are two strategies, with the

purpose of preventing and limiting the impacts of hazards, disaster risks and climate change

impacts. These strategies are of great importance as climate change impacts many areas of the

Philippines which is highly prone to multiple disasters because of its location situated on

earthquake & volcanic belt and typhoon path. The increasing vulnerability of many communities

is a testament for the need of disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation. It will help

prevent human losses but also secures the livelihood, property, assets and prevent an increase of

individuals from becoming poor. DRR and CCA are interrelated and one complements the other

which can then be integrated for a sustainable development within a certain group especially the

marginalized sectors/ specific individuals with no formal/ proper level of preparedness and

response to certain emergencies to accomplish the definitive aim of these strategies, the reduction

of poverty.

The increase on knowledge in Disaster Risk Reduction – Climate Change Adaptation &

Mitigation (DRR- CCAM) is a great must. Every individual should be given supple amount of
information on these concepts, to improve their levels of response and preparedness to a certain

disaster. A reinforcement on the character of the individual when it comes to these situations will

be beneficial if ever the occasion arises where they will now be applying the information learned.

It not only provides information & data on the occurrences of disasters in the Philippines but it

also raises awareness that there is a strong need of reevaluation of the practices & call of action

administered by LGUs and private sectors when dealing with disasters. An improvement should

be administered to minimalize error when overseeing assistance & aiding of individuals affected

by a certain disaster. It also showcases the effects of disasters on individuals, reaching to the

context of the human psyche. It exemplifies how survivors recuperate the damage inflicted onto

them by Typhoon Haiyan in Tacloban, Leyte on 2013 and how they progress after the disaster. A

disaster is natural occurrence, it cannot be controlled but with proper management between

organizations, proper knowledge of Disaster Risk Reduction, we can achieve a sustainable future
