INSTRUCTIONS TO THE CANDIDATES

Candidates are advised to be present in their respective exam room before 8.40 a.m. and reporting after 9.10
a.m. will not be allowed to appear for the written test.

1. Articles permitted inside the Examination Hall


A clean unmarked clip board or hard board, two good quality HB pencils for marking answers on the OMR
Answer-Sheet provided along with the test booklet, eraser, pencil sharpener; and two blue or black ink/
ballpoint pen.

2. Articles not permitted inside the Test Hall


Please do not bring books, notes, loose sheets, any type of calculator, calculator watch mathematical and
drawing instruments, log tables, map stencils or slide rules inside the Test Hall.

Please note that mobile/cell phones, pagers or any other communication device are not allowed inside the
premises where the Written Test is being conducted. Candidates are advised, in their own interest, not to bring
any of these items to the Written Test venue, as arrangements for safekeeping cannot be assured /
guaranteed. MOBILE PHONES ARE BANNED AT THE EXAMINATION PREMISES.
3. Conduct in the Test Hall
Please read and abide by the instructions on the cover of the Test Booklet. No candidate shall copy from the
paper of any other candidate, nor permit his/her papers to be copied from, nor attempt to give or obtain
irregular assistance of any description. If any candidate misbehaves or indulges in disorderly or improper
conduct such as harassment of Supervisory Staff, he/she will render himself/herself liable for disciplinary
action and will be permanently barred from taking the test and asked to leave the Hall.

4. Bubbling and Signature on Attendance List


Candidates are required to write the serial number of the Answer Sheet (attached with the Test Booklet issued
to them) on the Attendance List, to bubble their presence and sign in the appropriate column against their
names. Any change or correction in these particulars should be authenticated by the candidate by putting
his/her signature and countersigned by the Invigilator.

5. Admit Cards without Photos Candidates who got their admit cards without photo should affix their passport
size photos and get it attested by principal of a college or headmaster of high schools or branch manager of
any government-owned banks or doctors/advocates/engineers working with central/state government
offices. Candidates carrying admit card without attestation on the photos will not be allowed to appear for
the test.

6. Candidates who are Visually Challenged/Dylexic : Candidates who are visually challenged/dyslexic will be
given extra time of 20 minutes for Part I and 25 minutes for Part II. The writers helping them should not be a
graduate and to prove their qualification, they should bring a bonafide certificate issued by the Principal of the
college where he/she studies. (Writers studying in engineering/architecture are not allowed to help) The
writers will be given token money by TISS as appreication for helping the Differently Abled candidates.

7. Candidates belonging to SC/ST categories whose parents’ income is less than Rs. 1 lakh during 2009-10 will be
refunded their transport cost on production of original tickets along with the application form for refund.
However, their refund will be rrestricted to second class railway fare (including reservation charges)/original
bus tickets (actual cost of expenditure). In this regard, the students are advised to bring xerox copies of their
tickets and the income certificate. Candidates who fail to produce the above will not be reimbused.

8. No candidate will be allowed to change their course during the written test as they have been informed of the
courses they had chosen well in advance. Any candidate who finds a discrepancy in their choice of course
listed in the Admit Card should intimate the TISS CARE immediately so that they can be sent a fresh admit card
to their email ID within 24 hours.

9. Candidates who have opted for two/three programmes will attempt their programmes in the order given in
their Admit Cards. Candidates who have applied for more than one programme, will have NO choice in the
order in which they will appear. For example, a candidate who has opted for SE/GL/HRM will appear for
HRM first, SE second and GL as his/her third programme. This order of course is reflected in their admit
card clearly and the list of candidates with subject code will also show the same order.

Any infringement of these instructions by the applicant (candidate) shall entail disciplinary action
including cancellation of the present Test and ban from taking Written Tests in the future.

Examination Schedule : All candidates will attend Part I as mentioned below and attend Part II according to the
series of courses given in your admit card. No candidate will be permitted to attend on their own choice of course.

DESIGN OF THE WRITTEN TEST AND PATTERN OF MARKING ANSWERS


A. The Written Test

The Written Test consists of TWO parts, Part I and Part II.

PART I of the Admission Test is COMMON for ALL study programmes of study. It is an objective, multiple
choice test, with 50 questions to be attempted in 45 minutes, and aims to test quantitative ability analytical
reasoning, verbal ability and awareness of contemporary social issues. The Answer Sheet for Part I is an OMR
sheet. It will be given separately around 8.45 a.m. to write various details on it. All candidates have to fill in
answers ONLY on this sheet according to the instructions given. Please note that rough work may be done on
the question booklet itself or on the last page (marked as Space for Rough Work) of the Test Booklet; no other
space may be used for doing rough work. The specimen copy of the PART I and II OMR sheets have been put
up on TISS website for your reference.
Before marking the answers on the OMR Sheet, candidates will be required to fill in various particulars on it. The
details to be filled in are as shown below.

Other particulars like Question Booklet Series Number and Answer Booklet series should be written in the
ATTENDANCE SHEET.

(i) Before beginning the Test, make sure that the:

(a) Question-cum-Answer Booklet (QB) / Question Booklet has a Serial number and questions are printed in
sequence. If any question number or pages are missing please get it replaced by a new Question Booklet.
(b) Write your Registration Number on the Test Booklet and the OMR Sheet exactly as it is in your Admit Card
by pen/pencil.
(c) Any correction or change in writing the Registration Number must be initialled by the candidates as well as
by the Invigilator and countersigned by the Supervisor.

PART II is the programme-specific Test. The top portion of the Answer Sheets for Part II, with the following details,
is to be filled in by pen or pencil.

The design of the programme-specific tests in Part II and their answering schemes, vary by programmes, are as
given below:-

(i) For Human Resources Management & Labour Relations (HR), Globalisation & Labour (GL) and Social
Entrepreneurship (SE), the test comprises of multiple choice questions to be answered in the OMR
sheet. They will not be supplied question cum answer booklet as they have to attempt only objective
questions.

(ii) For Master of Health Administration (HE), Hospital Administration (HO), Public Health in Health
Policy, Economics and Finance (PHHP) and Public Health in Social Epidemiology (PHSE), Habitat
Studies and Policies (HP) and Development Studies (DS), a section of the question paper is to be
answered in the OMR sheet defined as Part II. The other section of the question paper is to be
answered in the question cum answer booklet (QB) and both the Question cum answer booklet (QB)
and the OMR sheet to be returned to the invigilator when completed.

(iii) For Social Work (SW), Social Work in Rural Development (RD), Social Work in Disability Action &
Studies (DA), Women Studies (WS), Media & Cultural Studies (MC), Councelling (CL), Education
(Elementary) (EE) and Disaster Management (DM) the question are to be answered in the question
cum answer booklet (QB) itself no OMR will be given for Part II.
B. Filling Up Answer Sheets

PART I :

1. For Part I and programme-specific tests i.e. Part II which are multiple choice tests and where answers have to
be marked on OMR sheets, please note the following:

(a) Each question item will be followed by multiple options. You have to choose the option you think is the
correct/most appropriate/best answer for that question.
(b) Mark the option on the OMR sheet with an HB PENCIL only. Please note that INK SHOULD NOT BE USED
FOR BLACKENING THE CIRCLE ON THE ONE ANSWER SHEET. For example, if the correct answer to Item 1 is
b, then the circle containing the letter b is to be completely filled in as shown below:

(c) Only ONE answer for each question must be marked. If you select more than one answer, the entire
answer will be considered wrong.
(d) To change a wrong marking, it should be erased completely and re-marked for the new choice. Please
ensure that no are left after examining the pencil mark.
(e) Candidates should not write their name or anything other than the specific items of the information asked
for, on the Answer Sheet/Test Booklet.
(f) Answer sheets MUST NOT be folded or mutilated or damaged by any extraneous markings. NOTHING
should be written on the reverse of the OMR Answer Sheet.

PART II

1. In the case of Part II tests that do not require OMR sheets, candidates will write the answer in the booklets
provided. Instructions for word limit must be strictly followed. No additional Answer-sheet will be provided to
write answers.

2. Collection of Question Paper cum Answer Booklets will be done at the close of the test duration.

General Information

 No negative marking or sectional cut off for Part I and Part II.
 Candidate cannot change their programme on the day of examination – They will be allowed to
appear for the programmes that have been listed in the admit card.
 Candidates coming without Admit Card or without supporting documents listed in the admit card will
not be allowed to appear for written test.
 Do not forget to sign on the attendance sheet as it is the only proof to claim your presence in the
test.
 Candidates are advised to report to the Centre much in advance in order to check their seating
arrangement and the location of building and exam rooms.

Special Request for candidates appearing in IIT, Delhi:

IIT, Delhi, being a huge campus and buildings where the tests are going to be conducted are scattered, all
candidates appearing in this venue, are requested to reach the venue before 8.00 a.m. in order to avoid last
minute problems such as locating the exact venue, long queue clearance of internal security, etc.
