child. He may vent his frustration on the child and thereby emotionally abuse him.
A child is also at a higher risk of being subjected to emotional abuse in case there is a
separation or divorce in the family. In such a situation, both the parents may be busy
with the proceedings and may emotionally neglect the child.

"Tough love" is another one of those lies people tell themselves to avoid the realization that
what they're doing is wrong. I can't tell you how many times I've seen parents lecture me about
"tough love." I only have to look at their children to see how wrong they are. And when I talk to
adults who experienced "tough love" growing up, the results have almost never been good.
They invariably have two traits; undying hate for their parents and mental/physical health
problems (the two are usually linked). So yeah, if you want your child to never speak to you
again once they leave the house and take anxiety or antidepressant medication for the rest of
their life, give them some of that "tough love."
