PRAYER LETTER FOR JANUARY 2019
January 31ST, 2019 Dear Friends, “Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: For our God is a consuming fire.” Hebrews 12:28, 29 Indeed, January was marked by sincere Christian service here on the mission field of Guatemala! Being “Stewardship Month”, our church, MBBC (Colinas Bible Baptist Mission) worked tirelessly throughout the month in different ministry outlets by evangelizing the lost, and discipling God´s people. We were blessed to preach the Gospel at the Shalom Orphanage in the Municipality of Sacatepequez (pronounced “sack-ah-teh-peh-qez”), not far from where our latest New Sunrise Baptist Mission is located. Our group consisting of 17 brought a puppet Gospel presentation to the more than 80 children and staff members, plus we donated much needed food, clothing, Bibles and medicine. Although it is a Christian based orphanage, many of the children there had not heard a clear Gospel presentation. It was a joy to have been able to lead some of them to Christ. Many of these kids are abandoned by their parents. We have been invited to continue visiting and preaching in their chapel on Sundays. Pray we can continue serving the many homeless and abandoned children of Guatemala. We were also blessed to preach the Gospel at a HIV-positive child´s home near Shalom, called Saint Joseph´s Hospice. This is a Catholic-owned medical facility, but we were nonetheless honored to have been able to share the Gospel amidst the watchful eye of nurse-nuns. They allowed us to witness and hand out the Book of Romans to all 48 AIDS children, who seemed quite glad to receive this literature. At the New Sunrise Baptist Mission, we evangelized and led many souls to Christ. We were able to go door to door visitation at the Guamuch (guah-mooch) village, and even handed out the Book of Romans at street corners. It was a blessing to see folks receive Chick tracts and Gospel portions. Also, throughout this month we were blessed also to preach and serve the Lord at the “Hope” Rehabilitation Center. This marks our 3rd year of week to week preaching and teaching, plus our holistic medical interventions. There are about 45 alcoholic and drug addiction patients, and in January we focused primarily on preaching the Gospel message prior to receiving detoxification treatments. Many professions have been made both with the men and the ladies´ groups. We are expanding our vision for this ministry in February by the hosting our first rescue mission-type medical ministry right here at MBBC. Soon we will be able to invite drug addicts and recuperating alcoholics to our church to hear the Gospel that can transform their lives. I look forward to reporting to you on the progress off this new endeavor in upcoming e-letters. Our senior citizens’ ministry “My Golden Years”, headed by Jaimie my wife and Sister Augustine Mejía, report great success this past month. Together they were able to evangelize and lead many older adults to Christ. Praise the Lord for Brother Robert Batres Sandoval, a 74-year-old Salvadorian refugee, who got baptized on Sunday the 6th. His other family members who were also saved will soon follow suit. Finally, I covet your prayers as I prepare to travel to the US to share our ministry in churches. I have been invited to several missionary conference down south, Alabama and Florida. Pray we can raise more prayer and financial support for the ministry here. Jaimie will stay at the front of the Mission in my absence, alongside our assistant preachers. For souls,
