PART 2 - Auto-populated from Mid-Year Goal Form

Professional Learning Goal Form - End-Of-Year - Tue Feb 25 21:14:25 EST 2020 1
Evidence of Progress: Ongoing (mid year)

1) Early on in the semester (fall) I had students complete a survey regarding their perception of their mindful
activities:https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1kCudNbJO5GhjP0V_RohySkUhPIgJwQr6XOSs5c7tpZY/viewanalytics

2) I have a copy of the certification that I completed this course, which is attached here.

3) I asked the students to complete the same questionnaire in January at the end of the semester to compare the results:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1EcQW7tHDZKH5CG93PoCh7wiP51MvZNl5nxSM2oBi9jA/viewanalytics

What I see is that 67 students completed the survey in the fall and that 40 students completed the survey at the end of the
semester in January. Evidently students were telling me that they completed the survey when in fact they did not. This leads
me to question their level of buy in and their level of energy at the end of the semester...in addition to their possible perception
of these surveys. Multiple factors can be considered.

In looking at the data I don't see any significant changes regarding percentages that agree/disagree with each of the
statements. The written responses vary from finding strong value and equating it with prayer before eating to a desire for
concrete evidence of it helping and the perception that it is a waste of time.

4) I also completed a survey regarding my personal performance as a teacher:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1Jw4J5XUur75-bMujt17VziJZbO8zyzw2RtJDZKP31iA/edit#
44 students gave feedback regarding my teaching. I don't think I've ever scored so highly across the board. Although I don't
see much of a significant change in response to the survey that targets mindfulness I believe that the positive feedback from
students in regarding my teaching has happened because of my use of mindfulness.

I have now created another survey for students to take for self assessment as an experiment to see if any growth or
improvement is noted. (I would like to run it by someone's eyes before I actually use it though:

I am also taking another course this semester on specifically teaching mindfulness.

PART 3
Professional Growth Goal Reflection and Summary: Due May-June

I have now taken 2 courses on Mindfulness. Although not perfect, as this is a long journey, I believe I met my goal even though
the outcome is not quite how I had envisioned it. I have some students who are strongly influenced in a positive way and really
receptive to learning more. Others are strongly opposed to it and are strongly resistant. I have learned to work with the
resistance in viewing it as an open door for conversation. These conversations actually offer more insight and assistance to
what I am trying to do. Each class has its own personality and therefore different responses to it. Some classes vote on whether
or not we will do it, others just listen to the bell at the beginning of class, and one class is still following the formal curriculum
from mindful schools. I find that when I am practicing mindfulness I am more patient, open and receptive to my students. I
respond differently in my interactions and have more awareness of what is happening with them. I find it challenging to maintain
my state of mindfulness and need to work on continuing a pattern of not multi tasking, setting aside more time for exercise,
sleep, and sitting.
Reflect upon your progress towards your professional growth goal. Did you meet your goal? If so, what led to your success within
this goal? If not, describe the barriers/challenges that led to your inability to meet your goal.

I believe the the two courses I took were really beneficial in offering insight and various perspectives about the exercises I was
completing. It was beneficial to watch others present lessons and reflect on the lessons as well as their use. I also found a lot of
value in sharing experiences and talking with Caroline Peinado about my work. Having a colleague exploring the same topic
was definitely of high value.
What methods/strategies/activities or resources and support did you find to be most helpful toward achieving your goal? If your
goal was not met, what methods/strategies/activities or resources and support could potentially have helped you meet your goal?

I find that my interactions with others influence me strongly. In result, I am hoping to take a third course next year. (Mindfulness
in Conversation) I believe this course will help increase awareness and assist me in continuing to build upon how I respond to
those around me.
How will your progress within this goal influence your professional growth-setting goal for next year?
