Teacher’s Activity Learner’s Activity

IV. Procedures
A. Preliminaries
Greetings Good afternoon everyone?
Good afternoon teacher.
Prayer ____________, kindly lead a prayer.
(Students follow)

Amen.
Checking of You may now take your seats.
Attendance
Who are absent this afternoon?
None ma’am.
Very good!
Review Before we start our new lesson, let’s
have quick recall with our previous
lesson.

What was our previous lesson all about,

_______? Our previous lesson is all about polygons.

That’s right.
What is polygon? _______? Polygon is a closed plane figure with different
number of sides and number of vertices.

Very good!

Who can enumerate the different

polygons that we discussed and tell me
how many sides and vertices does each The polygons are triangles with three sides
have? and three vertices, a quadrilateral with four
sides and four vertices, a pentagon with five
sides and five vertices, a hexagon with six
sides and six vertices, a heptagon with seven
sides and seven vertices, an octagon with
eight sides and eight vertices, a nonagon
with nine sides and nine vertices, and decagon
with ten sides and ten corners.

Excellent!
Give five claps for yourselves! (Students follow)
B. Establishing a With our new lesson this afternoon, I
purpose for the will give you a mission to accomplish
lesson before our discussion ends.

Read the following.

We should:
1. Define circle and its parts
2. Illustrate the different parts of the
circle
3. State the importance of the circle
Is it clear?
Yes ma’am.
Let us start.
C. Presenting I want you watch and listen to the story
examples/instances of “The Greedy Triangle”.
of the new lesson (Students follow.)
Who is the main character of the story?
The main character of the story is the triangle.
That is correct.
Can you describe the attitude of the
triangle in the story?
The triangle is greedy.
Yes, that is true. Why did he become
greedy?
He wanted to become special.
So, what did he do?
He ate a lot of angles in the forest.
What happened next?
He became a circle.
That is right. It means when a polygon
will have many angles, it will become a
circle.

Our lesson for this afternoon is all about

circle and its parts.
D. Discussing new Do you have any idea what is circle?
concepts and Circle is a round shape.
practicing new Very good. Another idea?
skill #1 Circle is a shape with no vertices.
Excellent.
All of your answers are correct.

Circle is a set of points that are

equidistant to the fixed point.

If you are going to make a point and

draw another points around it with equal
distance, it will form a circle.

The word circle derives from the Greek

word kirkos/kuklos means “hoop” or
“ring”. The circles has been known since
before the beginning of recorded history.
Natural circle have been observed, such
as moon, and sun.

Do you have any questions about circle?

None so far maa’am.
I have here different photos. I want you
to identify the following if it is a circle
or not.
A Circle.

Not a Circle.

A Circle.

Not a Circle.

A Circle.

Very good!
The 10-peso coin, wheel and compact
disc are objects that represents circle
while the others do not.

What do you think are the parts of a

circle?
E. Discussing new I want you to watch another video.
concepts and Please take note the important terms.
practicing new (Students follow).
skill #2 What was the video all about?
The video is all about the parts of the circle.
You are correct. Who can tell me the
different parts of the circle?
The different parts of the circle are center,
radius, chord, diameter, arc, semicircle and
circumference.
I have here a figure. Let us identify the
different parts of the circle.
But first, what is center?
The center is the fixed point of the circle.
Based on the figure, what is the center?
The center of the circle is point A.
That is right. Since the center of the
circle is point A, the name of our circle
now is circle A.

What is radius? The radius is the segment drawn from any

point on the circle to the center or the fixed
point of the circle.
What segment is considered as radius of
circle A? The radius of circle A is segment AD.
Very good. What is chord? A chord is a segment that connects any two
points of a circle.
What is the chord of circle A? The chord of circle A is segment EF.

Excellent. Now, what is diameter? A diameter is a chord that passes through the
center of a circle.
That is right. Diameter is also a chord of
a circle. It is considered as the longest
chord of the circle.

What is the diameter of circle A? The diameter of circle A is segment BC.

Very good! Next, what is an arc? An arc is portion of the circumference of
a circle.
Give me an example of arcs of circle A. Some arcs of circle A are arc BD, arc DC, and
arc EF.
Very good. It is also mentioned in the
video the semi-circle and circumference.
What are they? Semi-circle refers to the half part of the circle
and circumference refers to length of the
circle.
Very good!
F. Developing Now let us have an activity.
Mastery
Let us divide the class into 5 groups.
Students follow.
We will have a quiz bowl.

Each group will be given a flashcard.

For round 1, I will show you a figure,
and you are going to identify what part
is emphasize. After 10 seconds, you are
going to raise your answer. Each correct
answer is equivalent to one (1) point.
For round 2, I will read a statement. You
are going to analyze whether the
statement is true or false. Each correct
answer is equivalent to two (2) points.
At the end of our activity, the group with
the highest points will be declared as a
winner and will receive a reward.

Am I understood? Yes ma’am.

Let us start.
Round 1.

1. 1. Chord

2. 2. Diameter

3. 3. Circumference

4. 4. Radius

5.
5. Semi-circle

6.
6. Center

7. 7. Arc

8.
8. Arc

9. Radius

9.
10. Chord

10.
1. True
2. False
Round 2: 3. False
1. Two radii always have the same 4. True
length. 5. False
2. Two chords always have same 6. True
length. 7. True
3. All chords are diameters.
4. All diameters are chords.
5. All chords intersect at one point.
6. A radius is not a chord.
7. All diameters intersect at one
point.

The winner is group ________.

Give them ten claps. Students follow.

Let us proceed.
G. Finding practical What do you think is the importance of
applications of circle in daily life?
concepts & skills Students answer.
in daily living In history, circles are very important to
the ancient people because it signifies
safety unlike the angular things it
signifies danger.

In Psychology, they believe that humans

associate geometric shapes with their
emotions – and that circle corresponds
happiness while triangle corresponds
anger.

And even now, in present times, we

can’t imagine what the world would be
like without circle. A square wheel? A
rectangle ball? It can’t be.
That is how important the circle is.

Do you have any question?

None so far ma’am.
Let us proceed.
H. Making What is circle?
generalizations Students answer.
and abstraction What are the different parts of the
about the lesson circle?
Students answer.
I. Evaluating In a ¼ sheet of paper, answer the
Learning following.

Directions: Draw your own circle and

illustrate the following.
1. Chord QR
2. Center A
3. Diameter DE
4. Radius AC
5. Radius AP
J. Additional Using a compass, draw a circle whose
Activities for radius is 5cm. Then draw the following
applications or objects. Write “impossible” if the object
remediation cannot be drawn.
1. One chord measuring 2cm.
2. One chord measuring 10cm.
3. One chord measuring 12 cm.
4. Three radii measuring 5 cm.
5. Diameter measuring 9 cm.
V. Remarks

VI. Reflection
a. No of learners who earned 80%
in the evaluation?
b. No. of learners who require
additional activities for
remediation who scored below
80%?
c. Did the remedial lesson work?
No. of the learners who caught
with the lesson?
d. No. of learners who continue to
require remedial?
e. Which of my teaching strategies
worked well? Why did these
work?
f. What difficulties did I encounter
which my principal or
supervisor can help me solved?
g. What innovations or localized
materials did I used/discover
which I wish to share with other
teachers?
