E LEVATOR - GROUP 4 – C06

Elevator and building sustainability go hand in hand in the transition to greener buildings Eco-friendly inventions
now enable elevators have access to a diverse range of energy efficient lift options which incorporate functions
like regenerative drives, machine-room-less (MRL) technology, standby mode, destination dispatch, and energy
efficient lighting.

OPTION 1. - SCHINDLER 5500 ELEVATOR

SCHINDLER 5500 ELEVATOR

Schindler 5500 is the modular passenger
elevator that takes configurability to a new
level - it uniquely combines performance,
flexibility and design, which makes it easy to
fit to the requirements of commercial, mid and
high-end residential buildings.
The Schindler 5500 will fit because:Standard
car sizes are adaptable in width and depth with
a maximum of 4” (100mm) around ISO
standards.

1. GREEN MOBILITY
A. Clean drive technology
A regenerative drive can be incorporated and reportedly saves up to as much as 50 per cent of the
lift system’s total power consumption. Regenerative drives capture the electrical energy (heat)
otherwise lost by a motor operating at a higher capacity than necessary and then feeds it back into
the building’s grid
The Power Factor 1 (PF1) drive reduces energy consumption considerably in
comparison to conventional applications and regenerates energy back into a building’s
electric system. It is .99 efficient.
 During light elevator loads on ascent or heavy loads on descent, the system can
regenerate energy.
 Recovered energy can be used to power other building demands such as lighting,
air conditioning or other equipment.
 PF1 drive will generate less heat, providing additional savings through reduced
cooling requirements for the machine room.
B. LED lightning
LED lights have an extremely long service life. They last up to 20 times longer than standard
light bulbs while consuming less energy.
C. Optimized motor and traction media
- The new drive and traction configuration weighs up to 50% less than its
predecessor while using less oil.
- Schindler's exclusive suspension traction media (STM) are more flexible
than traditional cables. With a smaller bend radius, they can fit on a
smaller sheave, requiring less space and lighter

2. BRAINPOWER OF THE BUILDING

A. PORT Technology is a powerful software
system that uses information to guide and
transport people quickly and safely to their
individual destinations. Passengers
communicate through a simple yet elegant
interface device called the PORT

B. Energy Control Option (ECO) mode

Schindler's (Morristown, NJ) systems offer an Energy Control
Option (ECO) mode that switches unused elevators into standby. If
waiting times become too long, the system will activate additional
cabs to meet the need. ThyssenKrupp (Memphis, TN) says its
Destination Dispatch system improves handling capacity by 15-
30%. The system monitors and controls the amount of current
delivered to the motor, ensuring the correct level to provide to keep
the motor running at full speed. As a result, the motor is protected
from peak over-currents, potential overload and sudden power
surges.
3. . Machine room less (MRL) configurations save valuable building space, shorten installation time
and reduce power consumption. They use permanent magnet motors and gearless traction machines,
which can reporte dly save up to 50 to 80 per cent of energy compared to traditional hydraulic and
geared traction elevators. They allow for a lift’s machinery to sit in the shaft itself, rather than in a
machine room which would consume more space.
