Elevator and building sustainability go hand in hand in the transition to greener buildings Eco-friendly inventions
now enable elevators have access to a diverse range of energy efficient lift options which incorporate functions
like regenerative drives, machine-room-less (MRL) technology, standby mode, destination dispatch, and energy
efficient lighting.
1. GREEN MOBILITY
A. Clean drive technology
A regenerative drive can be incorporated and reportedly saves up to as much as 50 per cent of the
lift system’s total power consumption. Regenerative drives capture the electrical energy (heat)
otherwise lost by a motor operating at a higher capacity than necessary and then feeds it back into
the building’s grid
The Power Factor 1 (PF1) drive reduces energy consumption considerably in
comparison to conventional applications and regenerates energy back into a building’s
electric system. It is .99 efficient.
During light elevator loads on ascent or heavy loads on descent, the system can
regenerate energy.
Recovered energy can be used to power other building demands such as lighting,
air conditioning or other equipment.
PF1 drive will generate less heat, providing additional savings through reduced
cooling requirements for the machine room.
B. LED lightning
LED lights have an extremely long service life. They last up to 20 times longer than standard
light bulbs while consuming less energy.
C. Optimized motor and traction media
- The new drive and traction configuration weighs up to 50% less than its
predecessor while using less oil.
- Schindler's exclusive suspension traction media (STM) are more flexible
than traditional cables. With a smaller bend radius, they can fit on a
smaller sheave, requiring less space and lighter
