FINAL TECHNICAL REPORT
FOR
PLATE LOAD TEST CONDUCTED AT A VACANT LOT AT PROGRESS HOMES SUBD
BRGY.DEL ROSARIO CANAMAN CAMARINES SUR

PURPOSE:
The Purposed of the Plate load Test is:
1. To Undertake load tests at footing elevation
2. To Gather surface soil samples
3. To conduct tests of soil samples for classification
4. To evaluate and analyze results
5. To prepare a complete report including recommendations for soil bearing capacity and
the appropriate soil foundation

I. LOCATION OF THE TEST PITS

TEST PITS-1 About 1.5m from the ground surface

TEST PITS- 2 About 1.0 from the ground surface

All test pits are within the indicated property located at Progress Homes Subd. Brgy.
Del Rosario, Canaman Camarines Sur.

II. MOBILIZATION

Mobilization was Started on 17th day of August 2019 with the excavation of two (2)
pits measuring 1.5 m by 1.5 m about 1.5 m and 1.5 meter deep. A 1.5 m square by 3
meters high wooden flat form was built with a 250mm x 250mm wooden plate
attached at the bottom end. About 16 cement bags of excavated soil weighting 50kg
each.
Actual operation was started on the 17th of August and finish and completed on
the 18th day.

III. TESTING PROCEDURES

A wooden loading platform measuring 1.5m by 1.5m is built on a 150 mm square

wooden posts 3m high, with 250 by 250 mm wooden plate attached at the bottom
end. This is set up on a test pit allowing the wooden plate to bear on the soil at the
bottom. The platform is made laterally stable by means of supporting consisting of
wood scaffolding that prevent from twisting and horizontal movement. The used of
this scaffolding support and designed to allow free vertical movement when weights
are loaded on a platform.

Measuring of Vertical Settlement by attaching an appropriate measuring on the

wooden post and setting a fixed horizontal datum line independent to the platform
itself. This allows direct reading of settlement values on the scale at the time desired.

For Test pit No.1, an initial load equivalent to about 800 kgs, was imposed and the
platform could settle freely for about 45 mins.

After the settlement reading another 800kgs. Load was added and subsequent
settlement reading was again 45 mins. This is followed by other 800 kgs, load and
settlement readings after elapsed time of 45 mins.
For Test pit No.2, an initial load equivalent to about 800 kgs, was imposed the
platform could settle freely for about 15 mins.
After the settlement reading another 800kgs. Load was added and subsequent settlement reading
was again 45 mins. This is followed by other 800 kgs, load and settlement readings after elapsed
time of 15 mins. The settlement is .8 meter form 1 meter below the ground surface. The soil in
pit no 2, has many corrosion that lets the wooden post to shrink.

IV. LABORATORY METHODS

A. Sieve Analysis

A representative material sample is flushed into 200 mesh sieve carefully washed
until all minus 200 mesh material passes through as evidence of the clearness of
the wash water. That fraction retained on the 200 mesh sieve is then dried into the
oven and separated on standard sieve NO. 4.7,8.10,20,30,40,50,60,70,80,100,200.
After sieving the material retained on each sieve is weighted. The cumulative
weight of each amount is then determined and recorded in the appropriate form.

B. Liquid limit

A representative 100g. sample of air-dried oil passing NO.40 sieve is placed in an

evaporating dish and thoroughly mixed with a quantity of distilled water to a
putty- like consistency. A portion of the sample is then place in a standard brass
cup and levelled off to a depth of 1cm. It is then divided by means of grooving
tool along the diameter through the center line of cam follower. By turning the
crank at the rate (2) rotations per second, the cap is lifted and dropped until the
two sides of the sample comes in contact at the bottom of the groove along about
2mm. The water content of the soil is then determined on the portion taken from
around the groove. The number of moisture and then recorded on the appropriate
form. The forgoing procedure is repeated with enough water added to bring the
soil to a more fluid condition. The object is to obtain samples of such consistency
that number of blows required the groove will above and below 25.

C. Plastic Limit

A representative 15g.sample of the air-dried oil passing NO. 40 sieve

is placed in an evaporating dish and mixed with distilled water until the mass
become sufficiently plastic to be easily shaped into ball. The soil is rolled between
the palm of the hand and ground glass plate with just enough pressure to form the
soil mass into thread. When the diameter of the resulting thread become 1/8 ich,
the soil is kneaded together and again rolled out. This process is continue until the
soil crumbles when the thread becomes 1/8 inch in diameter and thread could not
be reform.

D. Moisture Content Determination

The sample is placed in a suitable container and the weight of the wet
soil and container accurately determined. The sample and container are then
placed in a drying oven at 100 degrees centigrade. The drying period must be
enough to permit the drying of the soil to constant weight. This time varies from a
few hours for clay loam sand. 16 hours is considered minimum time, after being
dried to constant weight the sample is removed from the oven and cooled to room
temperature inside a desicator. After cooling the room temperature, the weight
sample is determined and recorded on appropriate forms.

NOTE.
At pit no 2 we had only 2 loadings conducted, the wooden post shrink and settle
fast we cannot conducted any more load test. Soil at 1m is made of clay loam which
is soft for a plate load test.
