It's Election Time!!
There have been rather a lot of
elections recently what with our
national elections causing a certain
amount of upset and now with the
American elections causing a lot of
excitement in the US, the election
which took place at our February
meeting was a relatively tame affair!
This is the month when we are asked
to vote for the next International
President of Inner Wheel and for the
various officers who will support her
and also for the ladies who will
become the Board Directors and help
form the policies which will take our
organisation forward over the next
few years. Always difficult to choose
between people you do not know
although information is always sent
with their names about their history
in Inner Wheel. This made me think
about how well we actually know
about any of the people we elect to
represent us.
Still, enough of politics! Our club
elections went along smoothly
enough with a new President elected
and the rest of our present officers
willing to continue for another year.
Two members were willing to join
the committee for the first time. They
will be very welcome. These
procedures were greatly helped along
with a glass of wine and a selection
of food delights supplied by our
current President, Carole and the
hostess for the evening, Brenda.
The rest of the evening was spent
finalising the arrangements for our
next two events, the Coffee Morning
at the Queens Hall on Saturday,
March, 7th 9.30 – 11.30 when our
ladies will have the usual range of
cakes and goodies for you to enjoy,
and the Lunchtime Concert on
March18th,
again at the Queens Hall when Stuart
Hull, guitarist and singer will be there
to entertain you with songs from the
40s and 50s. He also brings along a
song list for you to choose from so
you may be able to hear your absolute
favourite.
Our photograph this week shows the
Queens Hall full of dancers at our
recent Valentines Barn Dance which
was absolutely sold out. Everyone
enjoyed an evening dancing almost
continuously and an excellent supper
in the hall decorated beautifully for
the occasion with hearts and balloons
by members Lesley and Bunty. As
ever Shinanikins were the band with
George as the caller, always popular,
always expert and often amusing.
Most of those there were people who
are familiar with this sort of dance
but there are always a few who don't
know their left foot from their right
which adds to the fun!!
