Si mon’ s R emarka bl e Story

There was a boy named Si mon Prouty

From hi s wi ndow, red flashi ng truck s he’d see

Si mon wondered what they were, and why?

Where did they go when they’d fly by?

Ambulances, Si mon’s mother explained

They carry si ck people, some of who are i n pai n

Some are young, some are old, his mother consoled

To the hospi tal they go, to be healed Simon was told

Then one day, a tooth came out of Simon’s mouth

He did not complai n nor did he shout

He was not pouty, not Simon Prouty

It did not hurt his smile, not by a mile

That night he left the tooth under his pillow

When he awoke, he found a five dollar bill … OH!

The tooth fairy left Simon something pro bono

She must have known good things would follow

His parents asked Simon what he’d do with his money Si mon thought of those red bl i nki ng truck s

Thinking he would treat himself with his bounty As he took from his pocket hi s enti re five bucks

But Simon Prouty had little dou bt about him Then he threw i n hi s saving s, i t came to a buck

He knew what he’d do, he felt a great sense of duty Six dollars i n a ball, he gave i t all

He thought of the ambulances and to where they go Gave everythi ng he had, that’s not too bad,

Helping the hospital heal people, that was his goal That Si mon Prouty, what a lad

He decided he’d help people he didn’t even know Wi th hi s selfless desi re, Si mon set the bar hig her,

To cure sick people the money should go For the rest of us to aspi re, to reflect, to admi re
Si mon’s compassion for others is easy to see Thi s tale is the truth, Simon’s g i ft, the proof,

He surpri ses hi s own mother with his generosi ty Si mon’s story is real and that’s the tooth

She says he has a ki nd and generous heart Simon Prouty’s g ift sets a fi ne example

From the ordi nary, Si mon stands apart How each smal l bi te soon eats an apple

And upon that we would have to agree Like a hospital bu il t brick by brick

From Simon’s gift, we can clearly see Is al so made of the people who serve in it

No better place could this world be And of the people who nurture i t

Were we all filled with the spiri t of Simon Prouty For we are all the ones who benefit from i t
That’ s the spi ri t that givi ng people embody

People just l i ke our friend, young Simon Prouty

And that, dear friends, i s what a community i s for
