canvas
or
class
list

Homework
for
each
day
is
often
posted
in
Canvas
by
5
pm
of
the
same
day.
Please
note
that
forwarding
uw.edu
e-‐mails
to
other
account(s)
may
result
delay.
DO
NOT
send
any
e-‐mails
to
the
automatic
e-‐mail
list
by
using
your
non
UW
e-‐mail
account
as
the
system
does
not
recognize
it.
2. Weekday
classes
are
often
arranged
to
develop
skills.
On
Mondays,
we
often
identify
the
overall
goal
of
each
week
and
major
grammar
points.
Tuesdays,
Wednesday,
and
Thursdays
are
for
speaking,
reading,
and
listening
practices.
Fridays
are
the
due
day
for
weekly
homework,
listening
and
vocabulary
reviews.
Midterm
tests
often
take
place
on
Fridays.
3. Please
put
all
electronic
devices
in
silent
mode
when
the
class
is
in
session.
If
you
need
to
take
an
emergency
call,
please
step
outside.
Otherwise,
it
can
wait.
No
cell
phone,
laptop,
ipad,
notes,
or
any
kinds
of
dictionary
are
allowed
during
tests.
Your
grade
for
any
of
these
assignments
will
be
zero
if
you
violate
this
rule.
4. Please
come
to
class
on
time,
which
means
within
the
first
5
minutes
of
the
class.
After
that,
late
arrival
is
marked.
Two
late
arrival
marks
equal
one
absence
mark.
Advance
notice
of
absence
is
appreciated.
Each
student
is
allowed
up
to
5
absences
(excused
and
unexcused).
After
that,
each
absence
means
1
point
off
the
participation
grade.
5. Students
who
cannot
make
the
tests
for
a
legitimate
reason
(serious
illness,
workshop,
job
interviews
out
of
town)
may
arrange
to
either
take
the
test
the
afternoon
before
or
the
afternoon
of
the
test
day
if
the
instructor
is
available.
The
extra
credit
activities
are
designed
precisely
to
let
students
make
up
if
they
can’t
rearrange
the
test
as
instructed.
6. A
general
rule
of
thumb:
for
every
6
spelling,
grammar,
tonal
or
diacritic
mark
errors
in
your
papers,
your
grade
will
be
reduced
by
1
point.
Late,
delayed
submission
of
tests
or
home
assignment
papers
means
50%
off
your
points
for
that
component.
7. The
instructor
reserves
the
right
to
make
modifications
to
the
syllabus.
I
am
available
to
respond
to
emails
from
Mon
to
Fri,
8
am-‐6
pm.
Please
do
not
send
last
minute
requests
or
inquiries
in
the
evening
prior
to
next
day’s
class
meeting
or
over
the
weekend.
8. Students
with
declared
disability
will
be
given
50%
extra
time
on
tests
and
will
be
arranged
to
take
tests
at
the
DRS
center.
They
are
also
given
priority
in
making
appointment
for
consultation
with
the
teachers.
9. Cheating,
including
but
not
limited
to
looking
at
and
copying
answers
from
friends,
plagiarize
essays
online,
using
private
notes
or
cheat
sheets,
will
result
in
a
zero
of
the
papers
or
the
tests.
10. Students
are
encouraged
to
contact

Language
Exchange
Program

be

a
native
speaker
language
partner

extra

or
