 Overview
The AdvExport utility will create ASCII files containing data for and about
Ellucian Advance™ entities. This utility may be used for the generation of data
interfaces for outside mailing vendors, data warehouses, reporting systems, other
database applications, and phonathon systems (specifically SmartCall).
Instructions for utilizing the components of this utility are included below.
AdvExport contains 2 main components:
• SQL scripts to populate tables of denormalized entity data
• A windows program that will save entity extract data to an ASCII file
AdvExport 2016 may only be used with Advance 2016.

Performing a New Installation

Preparing the Source Files
1. Create a new directory on your server to contain the files you will use during
the installation process.
2. Move the AdvExport_2016.zip file you downloaded from the Ellucian
Download Center to the directory that you created in step 1.
3. Using Windows Explorer or a Windows-based equivalent tool, navigate to
the directory you created in step 1 and unzip AdvExport_2016.zip. Once the
files are unzipped, the folder will contain the following directories:
• client - contains the client executable for the AdvExport application.
• scripts - contains the necessary files to perform a new database
installation.
4. Log into your database using your tool of choice and navigate to the scripts
directory that contains the files you extracted in step 3 above. Run the
following SQL script. This script will drop (if necessary) and re-create the
tables and procedures necessary to run AdvExport:
• install_export.sql
5. The scripts directory contains the new adv_export scripts you will use
during your export process.

To run the AdvExport application, open the \client directory and double-click
adv_export.exe.
Before AdvExport can be used, you must populate the export header and IDs
tables as well as run the AdvExport script. For information on performing these
tasks, refer to AdvExport Overview and User Guide.
