CONSTRUCTION METHODS

Name of Project: Construction of Library Building and Student Center Phase 2


at ESSU Can-avid Campus

The construction of the project will be started with the mobilization of personnel, materials and
equipments/tools necessary for the first month of construction activities. A temporary facilities will be
constructed for material storage, site office and sleeping quarters.

Item No. B.5 Project Billboard/Signboard


Content and size of the Project Billboard/Signboard will be as prescribed by the procuring entity and this
will be installed on the first day of the construction activity at a location approved by the Administrator of
ESSU Can-avid Campus.

Item No. B.7(1) Occupational Safety and Health Program


The Construction Safety and Health Program of the firm will be strictly followed to ensure safety and
good health not only to its workers but to all stakeholders.

Item No. B.9 Mobilization/Demobilization


Mobilization/Demobilization will be properly programmed to ensure that there is always balance in
personnel, materials and equipment to maximize accomplishment.

Item No. 800(2) Clearing and Grubbing


The project site will be cleared of rubbish, roots and other perishable and objectionable matters to a
suitable sub-grade.

Item No. 801(1) Removal of Structures and Obstruction


This will be done with utmost care not to damage adjacent elements or parts of the building.

Item No. 803(1)a Structure Excavation (common soil)


Lines will be staked out to the grades shown on the drawings before any excavation is started.
Excavations will be to the location, size and grade indicated on the drawings.

Item No. 804(1)a Embankment from Structure Excavation


Backfills and fills will be placed in layers not exceeding 150mm in thickness, and each layer will be
thoroughly compacted.

Item No. 804(1)b Embankment from Borrow


Backfills and fills will be placed in layers not exceeding 150mm in thickness, and each layer will be
thoroughly compacted.

Item No. 804(4) Gravel Fill


Gravel fill will be thoroughly compacted.

Item No. 900 Structural Concrete, Class A, 28 days


Concrete will be machine mixed with a mixture of one part cement, two parts sand and four parts
gravel(1:2:4) by volume, slump height not to exceed 75mm and properly vibrated. Concrete will be cured
for 28 days.

Item No. 902(1)b Reinforcing Steel (deformed), Grade 60


Fabrication of lateral ties will be closely supervised to ensure that the minimum concrete cover will be
attained. Fabricated concrete spacers will be provided. Splices will be on correct length and offset.
Fabrication of reinforcing steel will be as prescribed on drawings and approved by ESSU project
engineer.
Item No. 903(2) Formworks and Falseworks
Falseworks will be constructed to withstand the load it will carry. Formworks will be constructed true to
line, level and properly braced or tied together to maintain the correct position and shapes of the concrete
members. Forms will be constructed sufficiently to prevent bulging and seepage of water. Forms will not
be removed without permission from the ESSU project Engineers and Inspectors.

Item No. 1046(2)a1 CHB Non Load Bearing (including reinforcing steel), 100 mm
CHB will be laid plumb, level and all cells filled with mortar following the mixture indicated on the
technical specifications and up to the desired elevation. CHB reinforcement will be as indicated on
drawings.

Item No. 1046(2)a2 CHB Non Load Bearing (including reinforcing steel), 150 mm
CHB will be laid plumb, level and all cells filled with mortar following the mixture indicated on the
technical specifications and up to the desired elevation. CHB reinforcement will be as indicated on
drawings.

Item No. 1010(1) Frames (Jambs, Sills, Head, Transoms and Mullions)
This item will be installed plumbed, leveled and to the elevations specified on drawings.

Item No. 1006(5) Fire Rated Fire Exit Steel Door


This item will be installed plumbed, leveled and to the elevations specified on drawings. It will be
properly anchored.

Item No. 1007(1)b Aluminum Framed Glass Door (Swing Type)


This item will be installed plumbed, leveled and to the elevations specified on drawings. Sealant will be
with the same color with the frame.

Item No. 1010(2)a Doors (Flush)


Flush doors will be fabricated squared and to the dimension specified on drawings. It will be installed
plumbed, leveled and to the elevations specified on drawings.

Item No. 1020(2)b Doors (Wood Panel)


Panel doors will be fabricated squared and to the dimension specified on drawings. It will be installed
plumbed, leveled and to the elevations specified on drawings.

Item No. 1008(1)a Aluminum Glass Window (Sliding Type)


Masonry where this item be installed will be plumbed and level. Materials will be as specified on
drawings or technical specifications.

Item No. 1008(1)c Aluminum Glass Window (Awning Type)


Masonry where this item be installed will be plumbed and level. Materials will be as specified on
drawings or technical specifications.

Item No. 1008(1)d Aluminum Glass Window (Fixed Type)


Masonry where this item be installed will be plumbed and level. Materials will be as specified on
drawings or technical specifications.

Item No. 1004(2) Finishing Hardware


Locksets and hinges will be of superior quality and installed by personnel skilled to do the same.

Item No. 1003(17) Carpentry and Joinery Works


Fabrication of shelves will be squared using appropriate tools and materials. This will be done by
carpenters skilled to do the same.
Item No. 1021(1)c Cement Floor Finish, with Floor Hardener
Mixture of the cement floor finish will be provided by IPDES office, it will be provided by floor
hardener. Surfaces will be wetted thoroughly with clean water to produce uniformly moist condition
before cement floor finish is poured.
Item No. 1027(1) Cement Plaster Finish
Surface to receive cement plaster will be cleaned of all projections, dust, loose particles, grease and bond
breakers. All surfaces to be plastered will be wetted thoroughly with clean water to produce a uniformly
moist condition. Brown coat mix will be applied with sufficient pressure to fill the grooved and to prevent
air pockets. Finish coat will be floated to a true and even surface and troweled in a manner that will force
the mixture to penetrate into the brown coat. Surfaces applied with finish coat will then be smooth with
paper or foam to remove trowel marks and blemishes.

Item No. 1051(1) Railing


Materials, dimensions, locations and elevations of railings will be as indicated on drawings.
Only skilled personnel will be allowed to do the same. All welded joints will be fully welded and
smoothened by edger. It will be polished to mirror finish.

Item No. 1003(1)c2 Ceiling (Wood Frame), Marine Plywood, 6mm


Ceiling joist will be installed level with sufficient anchorage, fasteners and hangers. Ceiling boards will
be fastened with nails of not more than 4” in distances both directions.

Item No. 1038(1) Reflective Insulation


This item will be installed with sufficient support and anchorage to avoid sagging.

Item No. 1018(1) Glazed Tiles and Trims


Tile works will be laid plumb, level and true to line. It will be laid using tile adhesive following the
technical specifications on the Bid Documents.

Unglazed tiles will be laid plumb, level and true to line. It will be laid using tile adhesive following the
technical specifications on the Bid Documents.

Manufacturer’s direction for the application of waterproofing will be strictly followed for effective result.

Surfaces that will receive paint will be prepared properly. Surfaces will be treated with masonry
neutralizer and will be sanded smooth and dusted before every coat.

before painting every coat. Painting will be in three coats.

Steel plates will be cut to the sizes and installed to the locations indicated on drawings.

Cold water lines will be installed on locations indicated on drawings, it will be air and water tight.

Plumbing fixtures will be of approved quality and installed on locations indicated on drawings.

Catch basin will be installed on locations indicated on drawings and on correct grade.

Item No. 1100(9) Fittings and Accessories


Electrical fittings and accessories will be of approved quality and installed on appropriate locations.
Works will be supervised by an Electrical Engineer.

Item No. 1101(33) Wires and Wiring Devices


Wires and wiring devices will be of approved quality, sizes and type and installed on appropriate
locations. Works will be supervised by an Electrical Engineer.

Item No. 1102(1) Panelboard with Main and Branch Breakers


Panelboard including its breakers will be of approved quality, capacity and type and installed on
appropriate locations. Works will be supervised by an Electrical Engineer.
Item No. 1103(1) Lighting Fixtures and Lamps
Lighting fixtures and lamps will be of approved quality, capacity and type and installed on appropriate
locations. Works will be supervised by an Electrical Engineer.

Item No. 1200(1) Ventilating Equipment


Ceiling fans will be of approved quality, size and type and installed on appropriate locations. Works will
be supervised by an Electrical Engineer.

Item No. 1200(13)a Airconditioning


Airconditioning units will be of approved quality, capacity and type and installed on appropriate
locations. This will be installed by authorized installer of the ACU supplier. Works will be supervised by
an Electrical Engineer.

Item No. 1202(24)a1 Fire Extinguisher


Fire extinguishers will be of approved quality and capacity. It will be installed on appropriate locations.
Works will be supervised by an Electrical Engineer.
Item No. 1208(1) Fire Alarm System
Fire alarm system will be of approved quality and will be installed on appropriate locations. Works will
be supervised by an Electrical Engineer.

There will be general cleaning of the project site before the turn-over of the project.

skilled personnel using proper tools and equipment will be employed during the entire duration
of installation work. All workmanship will be of the best practices of the trade involved.

Painting
Surfaces that will receive paint will be prepared properly. Surfaces will be sanded smooth and
dusted before painting.

There will be general cleaning of the project site before the turn-over of the project.

Embankment and Base course


Fill materials will be placed in layers not exceeding 150mm in thickness, and each layer will be
thoroughly compacted to the correct grade.

Portland Cement Concrete Pavement


Form works will be constructed true to line, level and properly braced to maintain the correct
position and shapes of the concrete members. Forms will be constructed sufficiently to prevent
bulging. Concrete will be machine mixed with a mixture of one part cement, two parts sand and
four parts gravel(1:2:4) by volume, slump height not to exceed 75mm and properly vibrated.
Concrete will be cured for at least 14 days before opening it for use.

Shoulder
Shoulder will be placed and compacted after the PCCP has been cured.

There will be general cleaning of the project site before the turn over of the project.

pouring request.

Masonry Works – CHB will be laid plumb, level and all cells filled with mortar following the
mixture indicated on the technical specifications. Laying of CHB will be done after the columns
are sufficiently cured.

Roof Structure –Roof structure will be installed when the roof beams are cured sufficiently
enough to carry the proposed loads following the details on the drawings and the technical
specifications.

Slab on Fill –Fill material will be thoroughly compacted before the pouring of concrete slab.
Materials and elevation of the slab on fill will be as indicated on the technical specifications and
drawings.

Doors and Windows – Doors and windows will conform to the sizes, designs and kind of
materials shown on the schedule of doors and windows and it will be plumb and level.

There will be cleaning of project site before the turn over of the project.

fills will be placed in layers not exceeding 150mm in thickness, and each layer will be
thoroughly compacted.

carry. Form works will be constructed true to line, level and properly braced or tied together to
maintain the correct position and shapes of the concrete members. Forms will be constructed
sufficiently to prevent bulging and seepage of water. Forms will not be removed without

be as indicated on the technical specifications with slump height of not more than 75mm.

Partition
Aluminum partitions will be installed by skilled personnel from glass/aluminum suppliers. This
item of work will be undertaken by sub-contractor.

Doors & Windows


Doors and windows will be installed to the size, type and location as indicated on drawings.

Tile Works
Tile works will be laid plumb, level and true to line. It will be laid using tile adhesive following
the technical specifications on the Bid Documents.

Ceiling
Ceiling joist will be installed level with sufficient anchorage, fasteners and hangers. Ceiling

permission from the ESSU project Engineers and Inspectors.

Roofing/Roof Framing Works


Roof framing will be installed when roof beams have already been cured with anchorage as
indicated on drawings. Sizes and kind of lumber for roof framing will be as indicated on
drawings. GI sheets will be fastened by umbrella head GI nails at every other corrugation.

Concrete/RC Works – Reinforcement will be accurately placed and secured against


displacement. Sizes location and spacing of steel reinforcement will be as indicated on drawings
or schedule of steel reinforcements. No concrete will be poured into forms without an approved
pouring request.

CHB Walling Works


CHB will be laid plumb, level and all cells filled with mortar following the mixture indicated on
the technical specifications. CHB reinforcement will be as indicated on drawings.
Doors & Windows

Concreting of Yard
Base material shall be thoroughly compacted before the concreting of yard. Concrete will be machine
mixed.

Tile Works
Tile works will be laid plumb, level and true to line. It will be laid using tile adhesive following the
technical specifications on the Bid Documents. Tile works will be done after ceiling works had been
finished.

Ceiling Works
Ceiling joist will be installed level with sufficient anchorage, fasteners and hangers. Ceiling boards will
be fastened with nails of not more than 4” in distances both directions. Sufficient falsework will be
provided for this item of work.

Plumbing Works
We will ensure that all plumbing installation will be air and water tight, in correct slope and with vents
properly provided.

GI Railings
Materials, dimensions, locations and elevations of GI railings will be as indicated on drawings.
Only skilled personnel will be allowed to do the same. All welded joints will be fully welded and
smoothened by edger.

Demolition of dilapidated structure


Dilapidated structure will be demolished and unsuitable materials will be disposed of to the site approved
by ESSU authority.

Concrete and Reinforced Concrete works


Reinforcement will be accurately placed and secured against displacement. Sizes location and spacing of
steel reinforcement will be as indicated on drawings or schedule of steel reinforcements. No concrete will
be poured into forms without an approved pouring request. Concrete will be machine mixed. Forms will
be installed true to line with adequate support and water tight.

CHB will be laid plumb, level and all cells filled with mortar following the mixture indicated on the
technical specifications. All CHB cell will be filled with mortar filler and vibrated. CHB reinforcement

be fastened with nails of not more than 4” in distances both directions. Sufficient falsework will be
provided for this item of work.

Plumbing Works
We will ensure that all plumbing installation will be air and water tight, in correct slope and with vents
properly provided.
GI Railings
Materials, dimensions, locations and elevations of GI railings will be as indicated on drawings.
Only skilled personnel will be allowed to do the same. All welded joints will be fully welded and
smoothened by edger.

Plastering of Retaining Wall


Surface to receive cement plaster will be cleaned of all projections, dust, loose particles, grease and bond
breakers. All surfaces to be plastered will be wetted thoroughly with clean water to produce a uniformly
moist condition. Brown coat mix will be applied with sufficient pressure to fill the grooved and to prevent
air pockets. Finish coat will be floated to a true and even surface and troweled in a manner that will force
the mixture to penetrate into the brown coat. Surfaces applied with finish coat will then be smooth with
paper or foam to remove trowel marks and blemishes.

Painting Works
Surfaces that will receive paint will be prepared properly. Surfaces will be sanded smooth and dusted
before painting. Painting will be in three coats.
