Backgroud of the Study

Technology has a power to make all thing easier and proficient it is

also the most use of electronic devices around the world. Gadget usage

has pros and cons. Continuous using of gadget can result to backache,

eye straining and other health issues that related to this case. Assmption

College of Davao are facing to this kind of circumstances where in the

student are often use a gadget during class hour without the permission of

their instructor.

Globaly, particularly in Japan stated "students who spend several

hours each day staring into mobile phones or smartphones tend to change

their sleeping habits and stay up late to use the devices" Shusuke Murai

(2015). therefore if we often use a cellphone or any technology devices

there is a tendency that our sleeping habits must be change and it may

affect our health.

Nationally, In the Philippines particularly in manila stated “The use

of cellphones within the school premises has various negative effects not

only to the students, but to the teachers as well. Using cellular phones

inside the classroom does not only affect the academic performance of the

students, but also their behavior inside and outside the classroom,”

TheManilaTimes (2019).

Statement of the Problem

The purpose of this qualitative study will be to understand the

excessive usage of gadget for the grade 11 Senior High School Student

in the Assumption College of Davao. Specifically, this study aims to

answer the following questions:

1. why students fan in using gadget during class hours?

2. What is the positive and negative effect of excessive use of

gadget?

3. Does it necessary to use a gadget during class hours?

Significance of the Study

This study will contributed the students to know the effects of

having cellphones in their study. They will also know how to manage their

time in using cellphones. It may also help the students to be responsible

enough in order to lessen the negative effects of it. The findings of the

study will be beneficial to the following:

School Administration: Helps the school to know how cellphone affect to

the students they also find an action like implementing more physical

activities and program so that they will lessen their time in using

cellphones.
Teachers: Encourage the teachers to be more observant to their

students. They will find an action on how they can make the student focus

on their study rather than using cellphone.

Students: Helps the students to know the effect of having cellphones in

their study. They will also know how to manage their time in using

cellphones. It may also help the students to be responsible enough in

order to lessen the negative effect of it.

Future Researchers: They will broaden their knowledge on how this

problem affects their academics.

Scope and Delimitation

This study focuses on the possible effect of using excessively a

gadget to their academic performances. The respondents of this study are

the senior high school evening class grade 11 Humanity and Social

Sciences (Humss) students with 20 respondents both male and female

that have cellular phones.

This study is only for the students of Assumption College of Davao.

Theoretical Lens
Definition of Terms

The terms used in the study were defined as follows:

Excessive- more than is necessary, normal, or desirable; immoderate.

Gadget- This refers to an often small mechanical or electronic device

with a practical use but often thought of as a novelty. In this study,

gadgets refer to cellphones, tablets and laptops which are used by the

respondents in learning.

Effect- a change which is a result or consequence of an action or

other cause, the lighting, sound, or scenery used in a play, film, or br.

Chapter II

Methodology

This chapter deals with the description of methodology and various

steps adopted to collect and organize data for the study. Research

methodology involves the research design, research locale, research

instrument and data collection.


Research Design

The researcher used for this study was a descriptive correlational

research design. Researchers decided that the priority of this research is

the specific student of Assumption College of Davao. The researcher will

use a primary data to have a concrete information to collect through

survey then analyze it. The researcher respondents are the grade 11

Home Economics (HE) evening class, Lydia and Micah. 20 respondents

each section to be representative of the entire group that aimed to

describe the effect of excessive usage of gadget during class hour.
