WIKA
Midas was the richest man in the world. He was known for his collection of gold. No one
had as much gold as this king had. Yet, he wanted more gold.
One night, a fairy appeared in his dream . Midas wished whatever he touched with his
hand should turn into gold. The fairy smiled and granted his wish. Midas jumped up with
joy. His pet cat came running to him. Midas hugged the cat. At his touch, the cat turned
into gold. Midas was happy to have a golden cat, but was a bit disappointed as it was
lifeless.
He took a walk in the garden. He picked up a beautiful red rose. On his touch, it turned
into gold. Midas was happy to have a golden rose, but he was sad that it had no
fragrance.
When he returned to his mansion, he felt thirsty. As he poured some water into a glass,
to his horror, the glass with water in it turned into gold. He was happy to have a golden
glass but was sad as he had no water to quench his thirst. He picked up an apple and bit
into it. His teeth almost broke, for the apple had turned into gold. He was happy he had a
golden apple, but alas, you cannot eat gold; and he was hungry.
Midas went out looking for food and water. It started raining. Midas opened his mouth
wide and few rain drops fell into his mouth. He was so happy he could have some drops
of water.
Midas went down on his knees and prayed. “O God, what man needs is water to drink
and some food to eat. This is more precious than all the gold in the world. Take away all
the gold from me but grant me water to drink and a morsel of food to eat.”
The next moment, his pet cat came to life and came running to him. The rose which was
no longer gold was full of fragrance. He could drink water from the glass and bite into the
delicious apple, which was no longer a gold apple.
Midas smiled. “Yes, I can be happy without gold,” he said. The sky opened, and
raindrops fell. Like a child, he danced in the rain
ulan.
