MIPIM
ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW
FUTURE PROJECT
AWARDS 2005

An international review and catalogue of emerging

projects in association with The Architectural Review

THE AWARD CATEGORIES

The eight awards categories are not mutually

exclusive, for example, a project could be eligible for both
the offices and tall buildings categories. Entrants should
choose their preferred category, or enter a project in more
than one category: a fee is payable for each category
entered. The judges reserve the right to switch an entry to
a category that, in their view, is more appropriate than
the one entered. Entries for all categories can come from
both public authorities and the public sector.

OFFICES
Offices may be purpose-built or speculative. Judges
will be interested in the contribution the project makes to
its context in terms of urban design and its human
qualities, as well as the attributes of the building,
particularly in enhancing workplace productivity.

supported by

RETAIL AND LEISURE

This award will go to the project that best responds to
both its urban context and the needs and aspirations of its
target customers. For customers in retail and leisure
developments, the interior experience will be a key factor
in the potential success of a development, which will in its
turn have to respond creatively to the challenges of
today’s urban agenda with its emphasis on mixed-use
sustainability and connectivity within the urban fabric. A
winning entry will demonstrate outstanding creativity in
all these areas.

supported by

MASTERPLANNED COMMUNITIES
Entries in this category will be large-scale, predominantly
residential, vibrant sustainable urban communities where
generations to come will choose to live, work and play.
Merit will be given where there is evidence of applying an
inclusive approach to meeting all stakeholders’
aspirations to deliver socially, environmentally and
economically successful regeneration.

supported by

BIG URBAN PROJECTS

Judges will be looking for entries that have successfully
demonstrated that they can make a major contribution to
the regeneration of towns and cities. In particular the
proposed development respects the quality of the built
environment in the wider community as well as the
strategic issues of social responsibility, transport and
sustainability.

supported by

RESIDENTIAL
This category concerns groups of houses and/or
apartment developments. Urban design and site
planning will be important considerations for the judges,
as well as creative and innovative solutions and the
human qualities of individual dwelling-types and groups.

supported by

TALL BUILDINGS
This category covers tall buildings of all kinds. Projects
entered in the category should be examples of the way in
which such buildings can contribute to the public realm at
street level and, where relevant, create new public places.

supported by

INNOVATION AWARD FOR MATERIALS AND

TECHNOLOGY
This award recognizes the steadily increasing
contribution which emerging concepts, alternative
construction methods, sustainable design, innovative
materials and IT applications are making to both new and
refurbished properties. Judging criteria will include the
demonstrable benefit of the application; the extent of
innovation; the financial/marketing/environmental context
of the proposal; and life cycle costing.

THE MIPIM ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW

FUTURE PROJECT AWARDS 2005
MIPIM, the international property market, will attract over 16 000 delegates, the elite of the
property world, to Cannes between 8 and 11 March 2005. The MIPIM Architectural Review Future
Project Awards are for unbuilt or incomplete projects. The judges are looking for schemes that
both respond to the client’s development brief and are examples of fine architecture. Projects
completed more than a year ago are eligible for the long-running MIPIM Awards competition.

Call for entries

The Architectural Review, which since its inception in 1896 has been devoted to excellence in architecture and
environmental design, invites entries to the MIPIM Architectural Review Future Project Awards 2005. The deadline
