PATROL UPDATE IMPORTANT DATES: WINTER CELEBRATION

The Black team has taken over patrol
duties until December 17. Look for the
schedule posted on the class web site.
Our first reward trip for all patrols will
be to White Bear Bowl on Tuesday,
December 21 from 12:30-2:30pm.

 12/22 : Winter Celebration
 12/23 – 1/2 : Winter Break
On Wednesday, December 22 we will be
having a winter celebration. Students will
be reading and working on an edible
holiday craft. We will also be enjoying
snacks and a movie in the afternoon.
Students are allowed to wear their
pajamas to school this day! 

 ROOM 114 – CLASS NEWS
WHAT HAVE WE BEEN UP TO?
This week in math students completed
Unit 4. This unit was a short geometry unit on
circles, angles, and polygons. We will be
starting Unit 5 next week, which is a bigger
unit on fractions.
We also started our Unit of Inquiry,
titled Agents of Change. The central idea of
this planner is that individuals have made
contributions to society through language,
science, and the arts. This week we discussed
what makes someone an “Agent of Change”.
Some of the individuals we learned about were
Beethoven, Mae Jemison, and Isaac Newton.
Students also made a choice for their
summative assessment, which we will start
working on next week.
Students focused on reading
biographies during our literacy rotations this
week. In language arts, we talked about poetry
and began a poetry book. Our spelling list this
week focused on words with the /aw/ sound.
We also had a drawing lesson from
Kyle, who is with the White Bear Center for the
Arts. We also practiced reading strategies with
our first grade buddies. Have a great weekend!
Stay warm! 
Report cards went home on Tuesday of this
week. Along with the report card is a blue
reflection sheet. Students need to complete
this form (with your help) and return it to
school by Monday, December 13.
THE SCHOOL VOLUNTEER
We're very excited about a new program
we are working on. It's called The School
Volunteer and it's an online volunteer
program that allows our volunteers to
register and view all the areas that we need
volunteers for and sign-up online. In the
near future we will be able streamline our
volunteer systems and connect teacher
needs with volunteers. Keep a look out for
more information coming soon. If you

Working with polygons in math
SKATE NIGHT TONIGHT!!
Help raise money for our school by
attending the Skate Party on Friday,
December 10 from 5:15-7:15pm at
Saints North in Maplewood. There is a $5
admission charge that includes skate
rental. $1 goes back to our school for
each admission! The classroom that has
the most students attend wins the
golden skate trophy and coupons for
free admission.
