2019 MATAP-DepEd Saturday Program in Grade 7 Mathematics Session 5 TG

A. Introduce the Metric System of Measurements.

1. millimeters 3. kilograms 5. milligrams 7. centimeters 9. meter
2. square meters 4. milliliters 6. centimeters 8. liters 10. square kilometer

B. Some are only approximate values

1) 0.23 km 6) 8.941 are 11) 127 cm 16) 1.1 hr.
2) 12.56 dm 7) 563,800 g 12) 25 kg 17) 45 cl
3) 144 in. 8) 159 ft 13) 2.4384 meters 18) 364 days
4) 0.24567 kl. 9) 960,000 sq. cm 14) 70 years 19) -40F
5) 23 sq. hm. 10) 27 yd. 15) 1.7 century 20)45℃

C. Convert before adding.

1) 465,009.25 meters 3) 8.5 hours 5) 74.2 L
2) 34 kg 4)152.67 cm² 6) 436.9 L

D. Convert to smallest unit or most easy to convert

1) 55 km, 53 hm, 55m, 53 dm, 5 cm 4) 689 sq. hm, 1.2 sq. km, 7034 sq. dam, 5.67 ha
1
2) 45℃, 77℉, -5℃, -4℉ 5) 2 day, 480 min., 3.74 hrs, 7200 sec
3) 3.2 kL, 4.5 L, 406.14 cL, 32 dL 6) 88 lbs, 41 kg, 45 hg, 4130 g

E. Apply borrowing based on conversion

1) 7 years 1 month 4 hrs 20 min
2) 75 years 5 months 27 days 13 hours 1 minute

F. Use the conversion concepts

1) Since 1 ft = 12 inches, 56 x 12 inches = 672 inches. Thus, N = 12

2) Since 1 inch is approximately 2.54 cm, then 2019 x 2.54 cm = 5,128.26 cm. thus, N = 2.54

3) Since I kg is approximately 2.2 lbs, then 77 lbs ÷ 2.2 lbs = 35 kg. Thus, N = 2.2

4) Since 1 yd = 3 ft, 57 ft ÷ 3ft = 19 yard. Thus, N = 3

5) Since 1 mile = 1.6 km, then 40 km ÷ 1.6 km = 25 miles. Thus, N = 1.6

40 5 9 5
6) Solving the equation, ( 3 )℃ = 9 (N° - 32°) gives 5 (9) ( N° - 32°) when simplified is 24℃ = N° -
32° and N° = 24° + 32° or N = 56
9 9 9 5
7) To solve for N, 113℉ = 5 N + 32 is the same with 113 – 32 = 5 N or 5 N = 81 and N = 81 (9) =
45. Thus, N = 45.

G. Solutions
1. Circumference of larger circle – circumference of smaller circle = 2 x 3.14 x 25 cm – 2 x 3.14 x
16 cm = 6.28 x (25 – 16) = 56.52 cm or by 5.652 dm

2. If the radius of a circle is 6 cm, then the diameter is 12 cm. There are 65/12 = 5.42 or 5 circles
and 78/12 = 6.5 or 6 circles that can be cut on both length and width. Thus, there are 5 x 6 = 30
circles.

3. The area of the room – the area of the carpet = area of the uncovered part = 5 m x x4 m – 2.5 m x
1.5 m = 20 m² - 3.75 m² = 16.25 sq. meters

4. 12 cm x 40 = 48 cm = 4.8 meters of ribbon are needed

5. 1 hectare = 1 sq. hectometer, converting, 6 sq. km = 600 ha

6. Volume of cylinder = 𝜋r²h = 3.14 x 36 cm² x 11 cm = 1,243.44 cm³

7. 1 US gal is approximately 3.7854 liters

8. Using metric conversion, 5 dm = 50 cm, 4 dm = 40 cm and 7 dm = 70 cm. there are (50 ÷ 5) x
(40 ÷ 5) x (70 ÷ 5) = 1,120 sugar cubes that can be put inside.

9. From 6:00 am to 7:00 pm, there are 13 hours subtracted by 15 min (her breakfast), 30 min
(lunch) and 1 hr nap is 11 hrs 15 min or 675 minutes.
3 7 7
10. Since 1 4 = 4 and 4 of 125 grams is 218.75 grams of flour needed

11. In a rectangle, the area divided by the length = width. Then, 144 cm² ÷ 36 cm = 4 cm = width.
Then its perimeter is 2(L +W) = 2 x (36 cm + 4 cm) = 80 cm

πr²a 3.14 x (1.5)2 sq.inches x 6 inches

12. Volume of a cone = = = 14.13 cubic inches
3 3

13. He sold each kilogram by P20 x 4 = P80. Since he bought 7 kg for P420, his profit would be = (7
kg x P80 / kg) – P420 = P140.

14. If the representation in the blue print is 5 inches and every one-fourth of an inch represents 1
meter, then 5 x 4 = 20 meters.

15. Since ABCD is a square, then its interior angel are right angles and its sides are congruent.

a. Area of shaded part = Area of Square – area of the triangle = 256 cm² - 60 cm² = 196 cm²

b. Area of shaded part = Area of Square – areas of the triangle = 100 cm² - 37.5 cm² = 62.5 cm²

CHALLENGE!

1. Since the land is surrounded by plants, each dimensions will be extended and added by 6 meters
each. Thus, the area of the land with plants = (11 + 6) m x (12 + 6)m = 306 m²

2. Let a² = area of the picture frame and b² = area of the picture frame. Then, the area of the border
is a² - b² = 51 in². Since a² - b² = (a + b)(a - b) and 51 = 3 x 17, it follows that a² - b² = (10 +
7)(10 – 7).

3. By conversion, 2 dm = 20 cm and 300 mm = 30 cm. the actual dimensions of the park are 100
meters and 150 meters. Thus, the actual area of the park is 15,000 m²

4. In the figure, the four identical circles of radius 5 cm are inscribed in a square. Each diameter of
the four identical circles is 10 cm each. If the radii of the three circles are
5 joined together, it can
form an isosceles right triangle, as shown below. Then, the side of the square is 5 x 4 = 20 cm.
let d be the diameter of the inner circle.

To find the length of the hypotenuse,

Use the Pythagorean Theorem: 5
C² = 10² cm² + 10² cm² d
5
5
C = 10 √2 cm = 5 cm + d + 5 cm 5 5
10 √2 cm – 10 cm = d
Thus the radius of the inner circle is (5√𝟐 − 𝟓) cm
