PEANUT MARKETING NEWS – March 5, 2020 – Tyron Spearman, Editor (30)

2019 PEANUT CROP VALUE – According to USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, the price of peanuts averaged $0.201
per pound ($402 ton) last season, 6.5% lower than 2018. The value of the 2019 peanut crop at farm level is $1,129,584,000, a
3.5% DECEASE from 2018. Harvested peanut acres were down 1 percent.
The highest average price was paid in Texas ($584 per ton) followed by New Mexico at $564 per ton. The lowest price
average was paid in Alabama at $.185 per pound or $370 per ton. Mississippi was next lowest at $.186 or $372 per ton. Georgia
was the next lowest at $.192 per pound or $384 per ton average. About 47 percent of the revenue from peanuts was produced in
Georgia. Ranking second with revenue is Texas (12.8%) followed by Florida (10.5%).

PB& J DAY AT THE GEORGIA STATE CAPITOL – “This is my favorite day of the year at the Capitol.” That’s the most
heard comment as the Georgia peanut industry kicked off the celebration of March is National Peanut Month. During the event,
the Georgia Peanut Commission and Peanut Proud donated 14,400 jars of peanut butter to the Atlanta Community Food
Bank. Peanuts and peanut butter were promoted by industry partners serving grilled and regular PB&Js(1,200 tastes), country-
fried peanuts, peanut candy and more. Governor Brian Kemp presented a proclamation recognizing March as National Peanut
Month while Sen. John Wilkinson, chairman of the Senate Agriculture and Consumer Affairs Committee, and Rep. Tom McCall,
chairman of the House Agriculture and Consumer Affairs Committee presented resolutions recognizing the peanut industry.

Community Food Bank, Georgia Agribusiness Council, Georgia Farm Bureau, Georgia Federal State Inspection Service, Peanut
