Ligon Behavior Points of
Emphasis
Classroom Expectations

● Teachers should set the behavioral expectations for their class and re-emphasize those
expectations with students and their families throughout the year.
● Teacher classroom expectations should align with district and school policies.
● If students fail to comply with these expectations teachers must contact parents, and then
take the appropriate action.

★ While the school is currently reviewing our PBIS program if you need ideas for
appropriate classroom expectations and consequences for infractions please visit the
PBIS shared drive.
BYOD and Technology

● Students are permitted to use their smart devices in transition as long as the devices are
not loud or using any profane language.
● Within the classroom students are not permitted to use electronic devices unless given
permission by the teacher and are necessary for classroom instruction.
● If students are in violation of the BYOD policy, teachers should first ask the student to put
away the device, and if the student does not comply a referral should be done to the
students grade level administrator.
● If you are in need for strategies on classroom management when dealing with technology
please consult with Mrs. Laiosa or your grade level team members.
Dress Code Points of Emphasis

● Students are not permitted to wear any head coverings within the building unless it is due
to religious purposes.
○ Prohibited headwear includes: hoodies, hats, du-rags, bandanas, and head scarfs which completely
cover the head.
● If students are found to be in violation of this policy please ask them to remove the head
covering. If students do not comply with this directive refer to admin, please do not
follow the student or engage in a power struggle.
Tardies and Classroom Attendance

● Tardies and attendance should be noted in Powerschool during each classroom period.
● Any students who are chronically tardy (3 tardies in a week) or believed to be skipping
should receive a referral in ECATS.
● If a student has missed multiple class periods within a week please contact their grade
level counselor or grade level administrator.
Documentation in ECATS

● All student rule infractions which lead to a consequence should be documented within
ECATS.
● When documenting in ECATS take a breath, remember that referrals are not just
reviewed by school administration, but also by Student Due Process and other District
level personnel.
● Some tips for writing discipline referrals:
○ Referrals should not be written from the first person point of view.
○ Referrals must contain at least the students first name. Do not refer to the person committing the
infraction as “the student”
○ Do not include statements that could be interpreted as personal bias or animosity towards the
student.
