BIG IDEA/ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS
Big Idea/Enduring Understanding guiding this unit:
How to show solutions to a polynomial, key features of a linear & a quadratic that relate the two algebraically, what completing the square looks like
with algebra tiles, How a quadratic can not be factorable and yet still solvable because of the Quadratic Formula
General form of a quad (Ax2+Bx=C) Vertex form Y= (x+or-h)2+or-k and Factored form of a quad (x+or-a)(x+or-b)
Essential Questions: What provocative questions will foster inquiry, understanding and spark more questions? What questions will help students develop
and deeper their understanding?
What is the shape of a general quadratic function?
Why are there at most 2 solutions to a quadratic equation?
What techniques do we have to solve for those solutions (Inspection, Factoring, Completing the Square, Quad Formula)?
ASSESSMENTS
List the assessments that will be used to gauge student learning. This may include traditional quizzes or exams, as well as major learning activities such
as simulations, labs, etc.
Foundational checks on terms such as Coefficient, Axis (horizontal, vertical), polynomial vs monomial, domain, range, Horizontal and Vertical reflection
Homework Assignments given at most 2 days a week
Interactive Notebook
Formative Quiz given middle of 2nd week
Unit test at end of 2.5 weeks
RESOURCES/MATERIALS
List all resources (copyrighted or otherwise) that you will need to teach this unit. This should be a comprehensive list of all resources you will need to
create or borrow (including textbook chapters, additional readings, videos, power points and teaching notes, handouts, assessments, etc.)
Unit Calendar
(For each class period, list the topic of the day. You may indicate major instructional activities or standards if you choose.)
(Insert or delete days of the week as appropriate for your school district calendar. Add or delete weeks depending on the length of your unit.)
HW #2
Procedural practice on6 problem set of finding the
domain, range, y intercept, x intercepts of different
forms of quadratic equations, two of which will be
graphical.
