1.0 SCOPE
2.1 Each candidate for Level I or Level II certification shall be examined for
color vision and near vision acuity on an annual basic.
2.2 The candidate shall be capable of reading the J-1 letters on a standard
Jaeger’s or equivalent type test chart for near vision at a distance of
twelve (12) inches. The ability to perceive an ortho-rater minimum of
eight (8) or similar test pattern is also acceptable.
2.3 The candidate shall be capable of distinguishing the primary color involved in this
method of testing.

5.1 General
5.1.1 Each candidate for Level I and Level II certification shall be given
a three (3) part examination covering the general, specific, and
practical aspects of magnetic particle testing.
5.1.2 The following weight factors shall be applied to the raw scores of
the three (3) parts of the examination for both Level I and Level
II :
General 0.3
Specific 0.3
Practical 0.4
5.2.1 The general part of the examination shall consist of thirty (30)
questions approved by the Director of Engineering Services. The
questions shall cover the basic principles of magnetic particle
applications and methods and shall be based on ASNT’s SNT-TC-
1A Supplement B recommended questions for Level I. This part
of the examination shall be completed within a period of one
and one-half hours without access to reference material.
5.3.1 The general part of the examination shall consist of thirty (30)
questions approved by the Director of Engineering Services. The
questions shall cover the theory and principles of magnetic
particle applications and methods and shall be based on ASNT’s
SNT-TC-1A Supplement B recommended questions for Level II.
This part of the examination shall be completed within a period
of one and one-half hours without access to reference material.
