QUALIFICATION LEVEL I & II

1.0 SCOPE

1.1 This specification establishes standards to be used in evaluating the

ability of Drilco Field Inspectors to perform magnetic particle testing.

1.2 Satisfactory completion of the tests and other requirements of this

specification must be accomplished and certification as either Level I
or level II must take place prior to performing magnetic particle
testing.

1.3 Responsibility of each level of certification shall be :

1.3.1 Level I- -A Level I individual shall be qualified to properly

perform specific calibrations, tests and evaluations for
acceptance or rejection determinations according to written
instructions and to record results. Necessary instructions and
supervision shall be received from a certified Level II or Level III
individual.

1.3.2 Level II- -A Level II individual shall be qualified to set up and

calibrate equipment and to interpret and evaluate results with
respect to applicable codes, standards and specifications. A
Level II shall be thoroughly familiar with the scope and
limitations of the mothods for which he is qualified and shall
exercise assigned responsibility for training and guidance of
trainees and Level I personnel. A Level II shall be able to prepare
written instructions and to organize and report the results of
tests.

2.0 VISION REQUIREMENTS

2.1 Each candidate for Level I or Level II certification shall be examined for
color vision and near vision acuity on an annual basic.

2.2 The candidate shall be capable of reading the J-1 letters on a standard
Jaeger’s or equivalent type test chart for near vision at a distance of
twelve (12) inches. The ability to perceive an ortho-rater minimum of
eight (8) or similar test pattern is also acceptable.

2.3 The candidate shall be capable of distinguishing the primary color involved in this
method of testing.

3.0 EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

3.1 Candidates for certification shall have sufficient education and

experience to ensure understanding of the principles and procedures of
magnetic particle testing.

3.2 Level I Requirements : At least one of the following requirements

must be met.

3.2.1 Completion with passing grades of at least two years of

engineering or science study at an accredited college,
universary or technical institute, plus 40 hours experience and
eight (8) hours organized training an magnetic particle testing.

3.2.2 High school graduation or equivalent plus 40 hours experience

and twelve (12) hours organized training in magnetic particle
testing.

3.2.3 Grammar school graduation or demonstrated proficiency plus 40

hours experience and twenty-four (24) hours organized training
in magnetic particle testing.

3.3 Level II Requirements : At least one of the following requirements must

be met :

3.3.1 Completion with passing grades of at least two years of

engineering or science study at an accredited college,
universary or technical institute, plus 120 hours experience as a
certified Level I and four (4) hours organized training in
magnetic particle testing.

3.3.2 High school graduation or equivalent plus 120 hours experience

as a certified Level I and eight (8) hours organized training in
magnetic particle testing.

3.3.3 Grammar school graduation or demonstrated proficiency plus

120 hours experience as a certified Level I and sixteen (16)
hours organized training in magnetic particle testing.

3.3.4 For Level II certification, the experience shall consist of time

at Level I. If a person is qualified to Level II with no time at Level
I, the required experience shall consist of the sum of the times
required for level I and Level II. The sum of the hours of training
for Level I and Level II shall also apply.

4.1 General

4.1.1 Personnel considered for certification shall receive sufficient

training to assure familiarity with the principles and practices of
magnetic particle testing.

4.1.2 The training program shall include examinations to assure that

the material has been comprehended.

5.0 EXAMINATION

5.1 General

5.1.1 Each candidate for Level I and Level II certification shall be given
a three (3) part examination covering the general, specific, and
practical aspects of magnetic particle testing.
