ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

This study focuses on the effects of social media to family time management
among grade eight students in Sacred Heart School SY 2019-2020. Eight grade eight
students from Sections A and B, St. Gertrude and St. Gabriel, and seven grade eight
students from Sections C and D, St. Gerard and St. Gregory with a total of 30 grade eight
students. Correlational survey was used to determine the relationships of the variables
within the time management of the selected grade eight students. The results showed that
the majority age of grade 8 respondents is 14 years old with a percentage of 63.3 %. The
majority gender of grade 8 respondents is female with a percentage of 53.3%. The
majority of our respondents have 3-4 accounts or 33.3%. The results showed that the
number of followers or friends the grade 8 students have on social media was 250
followers and above or 60% being the highest. In terms of amount of time spent in social
media, the majority of the grade 8 respondents spend 4 hours and above in Social Media
with a percentage of 40%. In terms of Purpose of Social Media Usage, the majority of the
grade 8 respondents uses gaming as a purpose of social media usage with a percentage of
60%. Difference existed on the variables examined such as in productivity, quality of
work done, communication, and relationship all securing an overall mean of 3.3 and
above. Based on the results, grade eight students excelled in the variable relationship by
having the mean of 4.0, which indicates that their time management with their families
are often operative in terms of relationship. It is then followed by quality of work done
with a grand mean of 3.8, which indicates that it is sometimes operative, productivity
with a mean of 3.4, indicated as sometimes operative and lastly, communication with a
grand mean of 3.3, which indicates that it is sometimes operative. However, the overall
mean of their family time management leads to a value of 3.6, which indicates that they
are often operative. This indicates that their family time management is good and social
media usage doesn’t affect the students negatively. In terms of relationship in the family
time management of the students, results showed to have a moderate to strong
relationship between variables. This means that social media has relationship with family
time management of the grade eight junior high school students.

Dear Sister,

Warmest greetings of peace and goodwill!

Research is crucial not only to the holistic development of the learners but also it serves
as a great avenue for them to be well-exposed and well-versed to the activities which give
importance to the achievements of the Intended Learning Outcomes (ILO) in the
curriculum. Since we are in the Outcome Based Education (OBE), our modern
educational system wherein it is imperative that every activity must be centered in
attainment of the set ILOs in the curriculum, it is our duty as teachers to help the students
inculcate in them the very essence of HOMOHO approach (Hands-on, Minds-on and
Hearts-on) wherein we are exposing them in an activity which will help them more
realize the very essence of doing such.
In light of this premise, as part of the curriculum of the Grade 10 students, I would like to
seek from your good office your permission to allow the aforementioned subjects to
conduct their studies to their respective respondents in your institution starting Monday,
January 13 at 3:30 pm after HRG time. By this meaningful endeavor, we are helping our
students for their preparation in the next phase of their lives--the Senior High School,
since this is the last leg of their journey in Junior High School.
Attached herewith are the questionnaires of the researchers on their studies and other
related tests relevant to such for your further evaluation.
We are hoping for your favorable response regarding this matter. Good day and God
bless!

Sincerely yours,

JOMAR G. MERCADO
