GENERAL
This category covers exit hardware devices for swinging fire doors, which are intended to facilitate the safe egress of persons in the case of
emergency, as well as provide fire protection for door assemblies. They have been investigated from the standpoint of fire and panic protection.
Fire-exit hardware of the single-point-latch type (mortise or rim devices) with 3/4-in. latch bolts and the vertical rod type (surface mounted or
concealed devices) and mullion assemblies are intended for use on fire doors having a rating up to and including 3 h (unless otherwise noted in
the individual certifications). In general, fire-exit hardware devices are intended for use on hollow-metal, composite (steel, wood, or plastic-
covered), sheet-metal, wood core and metal-clad (Kalamein) type fire doors. Fire-exit hardware of the single-point-latch type (mortise or rim
devices) are intended for use on swinging doors not exceeding 4 ft in width and 8 ft in height. Mortise-type fire-exit hardware devices can be used
on the active door of doors swinging in pairs in openings not exceeding 8 ft in width and 8 ft in height (unless otherwise noted in the individual
certifications).
Vertical-rod-type exit devices are intended for use on swinging fire doors mounted in pairs, wherein one door of the pair is equipped with a
mortise-latch-type exit device. Both doors of a pair may incorporate vertical rod devices as indicated in the individual fire door certifications. See
the individual fire door certifications for manufacturers eligible to provide doors swinging in pairs (same direction) equipped with vertical rod
devices and without an astragal, and double egress doors.
Fire-exit hardware devices are intended to be installed in accordance with the installation instructions packaged with the device. The use of sex
bolts or through bolts to mount the devices to the door is required for composite (wood or plastic-covered) and wood-core-type fire doors unless
an alternate mounting method is identified in the individual door manufacturer's certifications (and installation instructions). The use of sex bolts
to mount the devices to the door is required for steel-covered composite type, sheet-metal type or hollow-metal-type fire doors provided without
reinforcements. The use of steel machine screws to mount the devices to the door is required for steel-covered composite type, sheet-metal type
or hollow-metal-type fire doors incorporating steel reinforcements.
Doors prepared at the factory for this hardware bear the marking, "Fire Door to be Equipped with Fire Exit Hardware."

This extended application report concerns test results obtained according to the test methods
defined in the standards EN 1634-1:2014+A1:2018 “Fire resistance and smoke control tests for door
an shutter assemblies, openable windows and elements of building hardware – Part 1: Fire resistance
test for door and shutter assemblies and openable windows” and EN 1363-1:2012 “Fire resistance
tests – Part 1: General requirements”.
The extended application process is carried out in conformity with the extended application
standards EN 15725:2010 and EN 15725:2010/AC:2012 “Extended application reports on the fire
performance of construction products and building elements”, and EN 15269-1:2010 “Extended
application of test results for fire resistance and/or smoke control for door, shutter and openable
window assemblies, including their elements of building hardware – Part 1: General requirements”
and EN 15269-3:2012 “Extended application of test results for fire resistance and/or smoke control
for door, shutter and openable window assemblies, including their elements of building hardware –
Part 3: Fire resistance of hinged and pivoted timber doorsets and openable timber framed windows”.
2 Details of the product involved

Product: “PCM-55 MM - 2019 de 1 Hoja”.
Type of door: Single leaf hinged timber doorset.
Total dimensions: 2425 x 1035 mm.
Dimensions of the clear opening: 2390 x 965 mm.
Leaf dimensions: 2400 x 1000 mm.

 Total thickness 55 mm.
 Supporting frame with a total dimensions of 17 x 45 mm and composed by MDF reference
“IBERPAN H STRIP” from FINSA, with a density of 770 kg/m3, formed by stiles and rails that
are joined by 10 x 45 mm, a plate of “PALUSOL 100” from ODICE of 2 mm thick, MDF with
reference “IBERPAN H STRIP” from FINSA with a thickness of 3 mm, and another “PALUSOL
100” from ODICE of 2 mm thick.
 Core composed by a chipboard with reference “GRENAMAT B” from GRENA, with a 40 mm
thickness and a density of 600 kg/m3.
 The core has on both sides a plate of “PALUSOL 100” from ODICE of 2 mm thick.
 Facing composed by a MDF waterproof with reference “FIBRANOR” from FINSA, 5 mm
thickness and a density of 750 kg/m3, using one in each side of the leaf.
Glue with reference “TENCOL TN-521/I2” from ADHESIUS SV and hot pressing is used to fix the
different materials of the leaf.
Composition on the frame:

Jambs and lintel of each frame are made of MDF with “IBERPAN H STRIP” from FINSA, with section of
35 x 18 x 140 mm.
Fixed to the subframe with lag screws, 11 units total, Ø4,5 x 50 mm from FISHER, with countersunk
head and nickel-plated finish (2 for each hinge and 2 in the strike area).
Composition of the subframe:

Jambs and lintel of each subframe are made of sapelly wood with a density of 500 kg/m3 and
dimensions of 40 x 140 mm (5 mm level on each face making a total partition of 150 mm),
Intumescent seal of “PALUSOL 100” from ODICE, 2 mm thickness, with the same width of the
subframe (140 mm) is placed.
Composition of beadings:
MDF with reference “FIBRAPAN” from FINSA, with a density of 730 kg/m3 and a dimension of 80 x
18 mm.
Fixed at 10 mm from the frame (by reference to the door leaf), using “FIREFOAM 1C” from ODICE.

Product: “PCM-55 MM - 2019 de 1 Hoja”.
Type of door: Single leaf hinged timber doorset.
Total dimensions: 2425 x 1035 mm.
Dimensions of the clear opening: 2390 x 965 mm.
Leaf dimensions: 2400 x 1000 mm.
Weight (subframe+frame+leaf): 157 kg.
 Total thickness 55 mm.
 Supporting frame with a total dimensions of 17 x 45 mm and composed by MDF reference
“IBERPAN H STRIP” from FINSA, with a density of 770 kg/m3, formed by stiles and rails that
are joined by 10 x 45 mm, a plate of “PALUSOL 100” from ODICE of 2 mm thick, MDF with
reference “IBERPAN H STRIP” from FINSA with a thickness of 3 mm, and another “PALUSOL
100” from ODICE of 2 mm thick.
 Core composed by a chipboard with reference “GRENAMAT B” from GRENA, with a 40 mm
thickness and a density of 600 kg/m3.
 The core has on both sides a plate of “PALUSOL 100” from ODICE of 2 mm thick.

35 x 18 x 140 mm.
Fixed to the subframe with lag screws, 11 units total, Ø4,5 x 50 mm from FISHER, with countersunk
head and nickel-plated finish (2 for each hinge and 2 in the strike area).

Jambs and lintel of each subframe are made of sapelly wood with a density of 500 kg/m 3 and
dimensions of 40 x 140 mm (5 mm level on each face making a total partition of 150 mm).
Intumescent seal of “PALUSOL 100” from ODICE, 2 mm thickness, with the same width of the
subframe (140 mm) is placed.
Composition of beadings:
MDF with reference “FIBRAPAN” from FINSA, with a density of 730 kg/m3 and a dimension of 80 x
18 mm.
Fixed at 10 mm from the frame (by reference to the door leaf), using “FIREFOAM 1C” from ODICE.

3.2.1 Description of the sample tested
Product: “PCM-EI-2017-MOD I”.
Type of door: 2 hinged timber single leaf doors.
Overall dimensions: 2935 mm height x 1075 mm width.
Dimensions of the clear opening: 2830 mm height x 880 mm width.
Dimensions of the leaf: 2850 mm height x 920 mm width.
Total thickness of 50 mm.
 MDF board with reference “FIBRANOR” of FINSA, 5 mm thick and 800/820 kg/m3.
 Core of wood particle board with reference “Grenamat B” from GRENA, 40 mm thick and
650/800 Kg/m3.
 MDF board with reference “FIBRANOR” of FINSA, 5 mm thick and 800/820 kg/m3.
Leaf incorporates a perimeter frame formed by (from inside to outside):

 Intumescent plate with reference “PALUSOL 100” by ODICE, dimensions 40 x 1,9 mm.

kg/m3.

The perimeter frame is fixed to the core by staples.
The frame consists of a MDF board with reference “Iberpan H Strip” of FINSA, section 35 x 150 mm
(width x depth) and density of 650/750 kg/m3.
The union between the elements that make up the frame of each door is done by glue with
reference “TENCOL TN-521/12” of ADHESIUS SV and hot pressed.

Jambs and lintel of each subframe are made of sapelly wood, section 45 x 150 mm (width x depth),
and density of 680 kg/m3.
Top horizontal dimensions: 1050 x 45 x 150 mm (width x height x depth).
Vertical side dimensions: 2935 x 45 x 150 mm (height x width x depth).
The union between elements is carried out by means of 2 Fischer screws per vertical side, of
dimensions Ø 4,5 x 50 mm and glue with reference “TENCOL TN-521/12” of ADHESIUS SV.
Union between frame and subframe:
Subframe is flush with the frame of the door and is fixed by 5 Fischer screws per vertical side of
dimensions 4,5 x 50 mm, equally distributed (from subframe to frame) and glue with reference
“TENCOL TN-521/12” of ADHESIUS SV.
Also, 7 Fischer screws of dimensions Ø4,5 x 50 mm are used in the frame hardware.
The frame and subframe incorporate, on both sides, covers formed by a MDF board with reference
“FIBRAPAN” of FINSA, dimensions 70 x 10 mm and density of 730/750 kg/3.
The covers are fixed, on both sides, by points centered and spaced 400 mm apart from each other,
and Fischer screws of Ø4,5 x 50 mm, centered and spaced 400 mm apart from each other.
Hardware:
 Handle with reference “ROSETA HADES” and keyhole with reference “BOCALLAVE REDONDO
1009” both of INTHER SYSTEMS EUROPE, S.A., located on both sides of the door.
 Lock series “MEGA”, reference “349-35/F24”50 C/R INOX” de INTHER SYSTEMS EUROPE,
S.A., mortised on one lateral of the leaf and top part of the latch bolt placed at 1035 mm
from the bottom edge of the door.
 Cylinder with reference “C0 5 3030 N” of Lince.
 5 stainless steel hinges with reference “PCM 1086 CR” de INTHER SYSTEMS EUROPE, S.A.,
center of each one located at 150, 790, 1430, 2070 and 2710 mm respect the bottom of the
leaf.
 Door closer with reference “CTB69 EN 2-4 S/RET” of INTHER SYSTEMS EUROPE, SA, located
in the upper corner in hinged face.
Door closer are deactivated during the test.
Others:
 The union between the different elements that make up the leaf of each door is done by
glue with reference “TENCOL TN-521/12” of ADHESIUS SV and hot pressed.
 Intumescent seal with reference “PALUSOL PL” by ODICE, dimensions 10 x 2 mm, located on
the entire outer perimeter of the frame (between frame and subframe).
 Intumescent seal with reference “30086” of PYROPLEX, dimensions 10 x 2 mm, located
around the perimeter of the frame recess.
 Joint with reference “DV 18” of INDOPLAST, of dimensions 10 x 2 mm and located
throughout the perimeter of the frame recess.
 Intumescent plate with reference “INTERDENS Type 15” of ODICE, 1 mm thick, and installed
in the machining of the lock.
Principal gaps:

The samples are fixed to a wall of ceramic perforated brick of 140 mm, coated with mortar on the
face exposed to fire, total thickness of 150 mm and density of 1280 kg/m3. Each door is fixed to the
supporting construction by means of pairs of crossed Fischer screws of dimensions of Ø 4,5 x 70 mm,
located 4 pairs per vertical subframe at 250, 950, 1900 and 2650 mm respect the bottom of the
frame, and two pairs in the upper horizontal of the subframe, 250 mm from the corners. The bottom
of each vertical side of the pre-frame (15 mm) is covered by cement mortar.
Direction of exposure to fire:

Tested doors opening in both directions (opening inward and outward the furnace).

3.2.2 Test results

Integrity
The integrity criterion of the door opening inward the furnace fails at minute 83, when appear a
flame held in the lower part of the door.
The integrity criterion of the door opening outward the furnace fails at minute 91, moment when
appear a flame held in the area of the lock.
Thermal insulation
The thermal insulation criterion of the door opening inward the furnace fails at minute 71, moment
when the average temperature of the door registers an increase in temperature higher than 140 ºC
with respect to the initial average temperature.
The thermal insulation criterion of the door opening outward the furnace fails at minute 66, moment
when the average temperature of the door registers an increase in temperature higher than 140 ºC
with respect to the initial average temperature.
4 Extension of the application of the test results

4.1 Modifications / options proposed
The hinged timber single leaf door with reference “PCM-55 MM - 2019 de 1 Hoja”, as described in
section 2 of this report, is a similar system to the one evaluated in the fire resistance test report Nº
248516. The modifications respect the samples tested are described below. It is proposed:
 Lock change;
 Handle change.
4.2 Principles applied for the extension of the field of application

For the present assessment the requirements defined in EN 15269-3:2012: “Extended application of
test results for fire resistance and/or smoke control for door, shutter and openable window
assemblies, including their elements of building hardware – Part 3: Fire resistance of hinged and
pivoted timber doorsets and openable timber framed windows” are considered.
4.2.1 Lock change

It is proposed to change the lock using INTHER SYSTEMS EUROPE, S.A. lock, series “MEGA” with
reference “349-35/F24/50 C/R INOX”.
According to EN 15269-3:2012, section C.1.1, “Glazed aperture – Add”, this modification is possible
providing that the alternative lock is of the same type (internally mounted/morticed or surface
mounted), complies with the relevant product standard, is suitable for use on the original doorset
and has passed a full size fire test to EN 1634-1 or a small scale fire test to EN 1634-2. Each of the
linear dimensions shall be no larger than tested successfully in the original doorset, and the latch
bolt shall have a similar or greater engagement. Additionally, for internal locks, the amount of
material removed from the door leaf shall be as tested in the original doorset or less. Any additional
component should be metal and the distance between the intumescent protection, if fitted, and the
lock forend or the strike plate shall remain as tested, otherwise further test is required. Further test
to include the maximum required size of lock/strike plate and, if this can be identified, in the most
onerous exposure condition. Additional test can be in accordance with EN 1634-1 or EN 1634-2.
The proposed lock, series “MEGA” with reference “349-35/F24/50 C/R INOX” of INTHER SYSTEMS
EUROPE, S.A., is morticed in the leaf, and has been included in the door tested according to standard
EN 1634-1 and report number 17/15573-2148 P1. As can be seen in section 3.2 of this report, the
door evaluated is a doorset with a more onerous configuration and was tested by both sides. Also,
the linear dimensions of the lock are smaller than the dimensions of the lock tested in the base door,
while the length of the latch bolt is practically equal to tested in base door. This door maintained its
integrity and isolation for at least 90 minutes without causing negative effects on the area of the
lock.
Therefore, the requirements EN 15269-3:2012 are met, so the lock series “MEGA” with reference
“349-35/F24/50 C/R INOX” of INTHER SYSTEMS EUROPE, S.A. is allowed to be used.
4.2.2 Handle change

It is proposed to use a handle with reference “ROSETA HADES” and keyhole with reference
“BOCALLAVE REDONDO 1009” both of INTHER SYSTEMS EUROPE, S.A..
According to EN 15269-3:2012, section C.1.17, “Door handles and push pads – Alternative handles or
push pads”. It’s possible to change handles or push pads providing they are surface mounted,
otherwise not possible without additional test. Test to include the required handles/push pads and,
if this can be identified, in the most onerous condition. Additional test to be in accordance with EN
1634-1 or EN 1634-2 .
The proposed handle, reference “ROSETA HADES” and keyhole with reference “BOCALLAVE
REDONDO 1009” both of INTHER SYSTEMS EUROPE, S.A., has been included in the door tested
according to standard EN 1634-1 and report number 17/15573-2148 P1. As can be seen in section
3.2 of this report, the door evaluated is a doorset with a more onerous configuration and was tested
by both sides. The door evaluated in this test was carried out with the proposed hardware, and the
door passed a fire resistance test until minute 90 without producing negative effects on the area of
the hardware.
Therefore, the requirements of EN 15269-3:2012 are met, therefore the handle with reference
“ROSETA HADES” and keyhole with reference “BOCALLAVE REDONDO 1009” both of INTHER
SYSTEMS EUROPE, S.A. can be used in the target door.
5 Results of the extension of the application

According to the comments in section 4.2 of this report, it is concluded that the installation of the
hinged timber single leaf door with reference “PCM-55 MM - 2019 de 1 Hoja”, as described in
section 2 of this report, it would maintain the integrity and thermal insulation criterion at least 90
minutes.
Possible classification
The possible classifications of fire resistance for the door “PCM-55 MM - 2019 de 1 Hoja” are:

6 Field of direct application

Materials and construction:
 The thickness of the door panel(s) shall not be reduced but may be increased.
 The door panel thickness and/or density may be increased provided the total increase in
weight is not greater than 25 %.
 For timber based board products (e.g. particle board, blockboard, etc), the composition (e.g.
type of resin) shall not change from that tested. The density shall not be reduced but may be
increased.
 The cross-sectional dimensions and/or the density of the timber frames (including rebates)
shall not be reduced but may be increased.
 The number, size, location and orientation of any joints in the timber framing shall not be
changed.
Decorative finishes:
 Paints that do not contribute to fire resistance are allowed in the leaf and frames.
 Decorative laminates and timber veneers up to 1,5 mm thickness may be added to the faces
(but not the edges).
Fixings:
 The number of fixings per unit length used to attach doorsets to supporting constructions
may be increased, but shall not be decreased and the distance between fixings may be
reduced but shall not be increased.
Building hardware:
 The number of hinges may be increased but shall not be decreased.
Size variation:
 Unlimited size reduction is permitted.
 For smaller doorsets sizes from the tested samples, the relative positioning of movement
restrictors (e.g. hinges and latches) shall remain the same as tested or any change to the
distances between them will be limited to the same percentage reduction as the decrease of
test specimen size.
Supporting construction:
 Option 1: Rigid wall of minimum of total thickness 150 mm (with mortar in each side) and
density equal or greater than 900 kg/m3.
 Option 2: Flexible construction.

This extended application is issued on the basis of test data and the content of EN 15269-3 at the
time of issue.
The extended application results relate to the behavior of a product/product family under the
particular conditions of the test; they are not intended to be the sole criterion for assessing the
potential fire hazard of the product/product family in use.
