Memorandum

To: All the Employees

From: The Director Administration

Subject: Let’s Join Hands

Date: 19 September 2013

It has been our motto to share the benefits of profits with our employees. A variety of
perks that are being offered to us speaks volumes of our top management’s
commitment to the entire work force.

The company had performed outstandingly for the entire decade of the 1990s.
However, during the last 10 years there has been a steady decline in the overall profits
of the company. The profits that were about 8.9 billion in 1998 (at its peak) have now
declined to a meager 2.9 billion by the year ending 2013. The management is trying to
reduce its extra costs in order to meet the daily expenses of the company. A committee
had been formed in August 2013 to suggest way and means of reducing unnecessary
costs. It has submitted its report on 10 September 2013 and the top management has
decided to implement its recommendations.

Keeping the above in mind I regret to inform you that the company cannot simply pay
for your stationary and pre-stamped envelopes for personal correspondence. The
management promises to restart this facility by the end of the year depending upon the
improvement in the economic situation.

It is hoped that the employees will cooperate with the management in this regard. It is a
time that we all should stand with the company in its time of need.
