Conditional Clauses (if clauses)

Type 1 – É usado para falar de situações ou acções que poderão vir

a acontecer no presente ou no futuro. Também é usado para dar um
conselho, uma ordem ou para fazer sugestões e pedidos

If Present Simple Future

If You go to the exhibition, you will enjoy it.
If You go to the exhibition, You will see Carol there.

Type 2 – É usado para falar de situações que são hipotéticas, irreais

e até impossíveis

If Past Simple Conditional

If You called him he would come.
If You went to the exhibition You would enjoy it

Type 3 – É usado para falar de situações hipotéticas em relação ao

passado (situações impossíveis de acontecer) , para imaginar coisas que não
aconteceram e para mostrar o nosso descontentamento com algo que (não)
fizémos

If Past Perfect Perfect Conditional

If We had gone by car We would have got there

If You had gone to the exhibition You would have enjoyed it.

If and unless
If… not significa o mesmo que unless.

Unless usa-se juntamente com um verbo afirmativo.

Exemplo: She can’t leave home unless she says where she is going.
Unless she trains hard she won’t succeed in the championship.
