What is Corona Virus (2019 - nCoV)

This is new type of virus share the same family of viruses with SARS (Severe Acute
Respiratory Syndrome) temporarily named as 2019 -nCoV. Being a new virus, it raised
concern as no antiviral treatment presently available. Also, the incubation period
(exposure to this virus till the appearance of symptoms) may go from 2 to 10 days, the
risk of getting infected or transmitting this virus is higher.

Symptoms of 2019 – nCoV:

Infected patient may have mild to severe respiratory illness with Symptoms of -
 Fever
 Cough
 Shortness of Breath

*What should be done:

Presently the recommendation is to reduce the exposure of infection and all those
conditions which may lead to respiratory illness. This Includes:
 Frequently clean hands by using alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
 Use Nose Mask whenever in Marker or in public place.
 When coughing and sneezing cover mouth and nose with flexed elbow or tissue
 throw tissue away immediately and wash hands.
 The consumption of raw or undercooked animal products should be avoided.
 Avoid close contact with anyone who has fever and cough.

*Travel Advisory:
 Wear Nose Mask all time while traveling through flight or in Airport.
 After using public toiler / urinals, clean your hand with sanitizer / Soap
 Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
 Avoid touching door Handle, Lift button in public area like Airport, Markers or
immediately wash / clean your hand with sanitizer.
 If difficulty in breathing while travelling seek medical care right away.

Are there any specific medicines to

prevent or treat the nCov-2019?

To date, there is no specific medicine

recommended to prevent or treat the
new coronavirus

Those infected with virus should

receive care to relieve and treat
symptom!
 Are antibiotic effective in
preventing and treating the
new coronavirus?

Antibiotic do not work against

viruses, only bacteria.

During Hospital for nCov-2019,

may receive antibiotics since
bacterial co-infection is
possible!

Can pets at home spread the nCov-

2019?

Presently there is no evidence that

pets such as dogs or cats can be
infected with the new coronavirus.

However, it is always a good idea to

wash your hand with soap and water
after contact with pets!

Does the new coronavirus

affect older people or all
younger people also
susceptible?

People of all ages can be

infected by nCoV-2019.

Older people, and people with

pre-existing medical condition
(asthma, diabetes, heart
disease) are more vulnerable to
becoming ill with the virus!

WHO advise people of all ages to take steps to protect themselves from the virus,
for example, by following good health hygiene and good respiratory hygiene.

and
share previous travel history with your health care provider.
