Developing the Plan
Developing the Risk Management Plan consists of three separate stages: identifying the
risks, classifying the risks, and selecting methods of treatment.

IDENTIFYING THE RISKS

The top three high probability and high impact risks to this organization are:

Loss of Electrical Power

Due to either a storm or electrical malfunction, the electricity in the American Airlines
Center could fail causing a delay in on-court play and/or off-court business operations.
The on-site manager and head of electricians will mitigate this risk by using multiple
backup generators and potential outsourcing of energy.

Injury of Player/Personnel (Including Negligence)

In the instance of an injury that includes blood loss to a player/personnel, we have on-
court doctors from the Dallas Medical Staff on hand to treat any such injury, for both
home and away participants. In the instance where an opposing player/personnel requests
their own team doctors handle their own personnel, then we will mitigate the tasks to
them. If negligence or gross negligence is in play, then a Nation Basketball Association
representative will do what is best for the league, along with a Maverick front office
associate will decide a ruling and fitting punishment.

Evacuation

Due to many number of emergencies (fire, flood, active shooter, bomb threat, etc.), an
evacuation of the American Airlines Center would be necessary. To mitigate the situation,
during pregame shootaround in the arena, we will issue a notice to all spectators using the
jumbotron and loud speakers of the Evacuation Plan, and how to safely leave the arena in
the instance of an emergency. We will also inform the league and the other 29 teams of an
updated evacuation plan before the start of each season.

Other Risks include:

Poor crowd management leads to fight between spectators and players.

A fan suffers an injury due to poor housekeeping in the arena or in the premises.

Player (home or away) injures themselves due to wet spot on court.

Vandalism of the Arena.

Spectator gets injured due to a player diving for a loose ball out of bounds.

Spectator gets a cut due to a dislodged screw in bleachers.

Player gets memorabilia and/or personal items stolen from the locker room.

Implementing the Plan

Every individual in the Dallas Mavericks organization must understand the overall risk
management plan and risk reduction strategies and know what his or her role is in
implementing the plan. Our risk manager will orally communicate with printed guidelines
outlining the risk management plan and risk reduction techniques. These guidelines will
be inserted into the employee manual during the first orientation of the new season. This
employee manual will be termed as the “safety manual”.

We will also utilize a sound training program, which will be used to communicate
responsibilities, develop professional judgement and decision making (standard of care),
and increase ability to make sound judgements using credential training, such as
CPR/First Aid certification.

Managing the Plan

DESIGNATE A RISK MANAGER
We will continue to use our current risk manager, John Smith, to be the risk manager for
this new plan.

PAGE 4
AUTHORITY TO LEAD
We have the management staff and ownership of the organization to endorse and support
the idea of risk management. Under support and communication with the ownership of
the organization, insurance compromising is our greatest expense. You will have the
freedom to act independently, but within the philosophy of the Dallas Mavericks
organization.

PROVIDING EMPLOYEES WITH THE OPPORTUNITY FOR CONTINUOUS

INPUT
We will make sure that the employees, supervisors, and managers on all levels have the
ability to interact with each other, to provide for all sides of this organization with a sound
risk management plan.
