Improving Discipline Through Lesson Management

Angelo C. Diy BSED 18/30 March 6, 2020

First is identifying the type of learning procedures and activities that the
learners like would be a big help. Our learners and diverse and are having different
ways or acquiring and sharing what they learned. Now, if we will have the
identification of the different procedures and activities that the students liked, we can
use it to make differentiated instructions for the benefit of the learners. We can also
use it by grouping learners with the same interest so that once they would be
grouped, they can easily share their ideas and thought to their fellow members. The
tasks that would also be given to the learners should be able or under the scope of
the objective in which I can help the learners in knowing what they should
accomplish. By this way, cooperation and collaboration of the learners would be
exercised.

Another thing is that, a clear instruction would really help the learners.
Teachers should be able to provide the activity with the easy-to-understand and not
complex words in which is a factor that could promote better development in the
comprehension of the learners.

B. Question for Reflection

1. What are the expectations for a successful discipline climate in my school?
How can I include these expectations in a plan that will meet the needs of my
students?

First, a classroom conducive for learning. Meaning it is well ventilated, with lights,
and the tables and chairs are comfortable for the students. Another is they will feel
safe while being in the school and also school buildings are in good condition.
Environment of classrooms should make the students feel welcomed and
appreciated.

With this expectations, we can create a plan in which is ideal for the existing
climate of the school to have a better performance in relation to the learning process
of the students.

2. How can I encourage my students to become self-disciplined?

I, as a teacher, can encourage my student to be self-disciplined by first becoming

a role model for them. Every action that I must show must be proper and will show
the act of being disciplined. Secondly, we can continue on giving them lesson on
how to discipline ourselves. Make them understand the significance and the need of
such actions for our self, relationship to others, and for the building of a better
community. Lastly, implementing rules and regulation and giving of sanctions to
those who will break it can help in developing the child’s self-discipline.

3. Why do my students misbehave? What can I do to learn more about his? How
can I use this knowledge to help my students improve their academic and
social behaviors?

Students misbehavior has several causes. First is, it may be related to his/her
condition at home. Things at home can affect on how students act in school with
his/her classmates. Another is in a class; this student might be bored, or his/her
attention span might not be that long. That is why we have to indulge them in
learning activities in which they can socialize, collaborate, and mingle with their
classmate so that not only that they will enjoy but they can learn things on their own.

4. Which instructional practices tend to promote productive behavior in my

class? Which one causes student to become off-task or disruptive?
Angelo C. Diy BSED 18/30 March 6, 2020

One of the instructional practices that can promote productive behavior is group
activities in which students can share their thought and ideas with each other. It will
also promote collaboration and teamwork in which is a necessary characteristic a
person must have. As for the one that will cause the student to be off-task or
disruptive, it will vary among any activities in which they will not have or receive a
clear instruction on how will they perform the activity and the are lacking the
knowledge in performing it.

5. How can I use routines, procedures, and policies to establish a smoothly

running classroom?

By making it an everyday practice in which as time will pass by, student will not
notice it but will be continuing on doing and following the routines, procedures, and
policies.

6. What can I do to prevent or minimize disruptions caused by misbehavior?

In this situation, as a teacher, during the very first session of the class it is
important to already inform the students of the house rules of the classroom.
Making then aware of the consequences in breaking those rules. Also, informing
them about the school rules is very important in relation to the misbehaviors that
can cause disruptions of a class. You can also put up rewards to the class if ever
they can achieve things that are significant to their own development.
