Iron Pyrite
De coppering Flux for Lead Refining Process
INTRODUCTION
Iron Pyrite is a greyish black coloured material which is used extensively as a replacement of
sulphur based flux in De coppering process of lead refining (Cu removal) because of its various
advantages in terms of energy saving and dross reduction which reduces the cost of processing.
ADVANTAGES
• No Use of Tin: No Need to add any Tin as addition
even if it is not present in Raw material for De- PROPERTIES OF IRON PYRITE
coppering operation
• Bulk Density: 2.2 - 2.5 g/cm3
• Reduced Dross Amount: Dross generation during De- • pH: 3 to 6
coppering process is reduced to great extent, as
• Decomposition Temp: 570°C
compare to traditional Sulphur based De-coppering
process. • Moisture: 0.2 %
• Fineness:
• Faster Reaction: It works at high temperature about
500 to 520°C, as a result the overall process time is a. 100% through 20 μm Mesh
reduced in comparison to traditional Sulphur based b. 90% through 600 μm Mesh
treatment, where the system has to be drop down at c. 50% through 250 μm Mesh
330°C to execute De-coppering after melting of Ingots.
