2.3 CIRCUIT-SWITCHED DATA MEASUREMENTS

The circuit-switched (CS) data testing environment consists of three parts: a measurement unit
(Nemo Outdoor), an application server, and a dial-up server. The dial-up server is used to
establish a data connection between the measurement unit and the application server. Nemo
Data Test Server can be used as the application server. It is a Linux-based administration-free
server having up to four public IP addresses and it can serve multiple simultaneous TCP/IP
connections from test terminals. Nemo Data Test Server supports FTP, HTTP, POP3, SMTP,
and RTSP (video streaming). CS data testing is possible on all cellular technologies that
support circuit-switched data.

The data measurement system has two modes: Send and Receive. In the Send mode, the
measurement unit sends data packets to the application server; in the Receive mode vice
versa. When an FTP server is used the measurement unit uploads (Send mode) or downloads
(Receive mode) test files to or from the FTP server. When an HTTP server is used the
measurement unit can only receive files.
In CS data measurements, the recorded parameters include:
• Number of requested and used timeslots
• Requested and used coding schemes
• Data call type (Non-transparent/Transparent)
• Resource upgrades/downgrades during handovers
• Transfer rate (every n second and average)
• Packet error rate

NEM O O UT DOO R™ 4. 21 PRO DUCT DESCR IPT IO N 9

2.4 PACKET-SWITCHED DATA MEASUREMENTS

The packet-switched (PS) data testing environments consist of two ends: the measurement unit
and an application server. Nemo Data Test Server can be used as the application server. It is a
Linux-based administration-free server having up to four public IP addresses and it can serve
multiple simultaneous TCP/IP connections from test terminals. Nemo Data Test Server supports
FTP, HTTP, POP3, SMTP, and RTSP (video streaming). PS data testing is possible on all
cellular technologies that support packet-switched data.

The data measurement system has two modes: Send and Receive. In the Send mode, the
measurement unit sends data packets to the application server; in the Receive mode vice
versa.

In PS data measurements, the recorded parameters include:

• Data throughput
• Packet error rate
• Ping time
• RLC/MAC data throughput
• LLC data throughput
• Coding schemes
• RLC BLER
• Attach state
• GMM service state
• SM information

NEM O O UT DOO R™ 4. 21 PRO DUCT DESCR IPT IO N 10

2.5 UMA MEASUREMENTS

UMA (Unlicensed Mobile Access), the 3GPP standard for mobile/Wi-Fi convergence, is an
access technology that allows a seamless handoff of mobile voice and data from a wide area
cellular network to a wireless local area network (WLAN). The UMA standard defines how
mobile operators can turn home, office, and public wireless LANs into seamless extensions of
their cellular networks, dramatically increasing mobile service usage while decreasing costs for
operators. With UMA, subscribers receive a consistent user experience for their mobile voice
and data services as they transition between networks.

Nemo Outdoor, with support for UMA, is an ideal solution for operators who test and verify how
subscribers can access and move seamlessly between mobile networks and WLANs.
Furthermore, not only can voice services be tested, but also all mobile services including email,
MMS, SMS, and other applications. At the moment Nemo Outdoor supports the Nokia 6136
UMA terminal. UMA parameters available include GAN State, WLAN Quality, QoS parameters,
AMR information, LLC data rate, and URR/ URLC signaling.

NEM O O UT DOO R™ 4. 21 PRO DUCT DESCR IPT IO N 11

2.6 DVB-H MEASUREMENTS

With Nemo Outdoor it is also possible to perform DVB-H network measurements supporting
various DVB-H terminals. The DVB-H (digital video broadcast-handheld) standard was derived
from DVB-T, enabling lower power consumption, lower signal strengths, and fast movement,
such as watching TV on your mobile while riding down the freeway at high speed. DVB-H
includes a number of specific changes to the DVB-T standard to address the constraints of
handheld devices, including :

• Time slicing to reduce power consumption

• IP datacasting for lower-resolution video streaming

• Multiprotocol encapsulation-forward error correction encoding (MPE-FEC) for more

robust signal reception

• A 4K carrier mode for network optimization

DVB-H is a broadcasting network, so there is no return path. The first version is based on Nokia
N92, Samsung, and LG DVB-H terminals. DVB-H network operators are interesting in network
coverage, as DVB-H is driven by the power of the transmitter and performance of the receiver.
The cost of the network will be highly dependent on the performance of the receiver, in
particular its ability to recover a signal with a poor signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and its robustness
against adjacent channel interference. Nemo Outdoor helps the operator optimize the network
by enabling the measuring of all key parameters of DVB-H broadcasting. Available parameters
include BER, FER, MFER (MPE-FEC frame error ratio) and RSSI.

NEM O O UT DOO R™ 4. 21 PRO DUCT DESCR IPT IO N 12

2.7 SCANNER MEASUREMENTS

Nemo Outdoor measurement system can also be equipped with a DTI or Anritsu frequency
scanner. DTI scanners can be used in NMT, iDEN, ETACS, GSM, cdmaOne, TDMA, and
WCDMA networks and the Anritsu scanners in GSM and WCDMA networks.

Frequency Scan mode is designed for basic frequency domain monitoring or spectrum analysis.
The scanning receiver can be used in variable bandwidth modes to check the existence of
wanted or unwanted radio signals in the defined frequency band. By using this mode, all the
user-selected carrier frequencies of the current wireless system and their field strength values
can be observed. In addition, if the Nemo Outdoor measurement system is equipped with a
GPS receiver, the position information is also stored by the system. Frequency scanning results
contain the field strength values for the carriers. The data collected can be used, for example,
for network planning and tuning and, furthermore, for interference measurements. Depending
on the cellular system technology, frequency scan mode also allows detection and
measurement of other important parameters such as BSIC, DVCC, and C/I values. The DTI
GSM scanner supports RXLEV and C/I measurements and BSIC decoding including MNC,
MCC, Cell ID and LAC information.

Pilot mode is designed for scrambling or spreading code domain analysis in WCDMA networks.
In this mode, Nemo Outdoor is able to measure and decode the Pilot signal scrambling codes
and their signal-to-noise ratios (Ec/No and Ec/Io values). In addition, the Primary and
Secondary Synchronization Channel Ec/No can be measured. Furthermore, Pilot Channel Time
of Arrival and Absolute Timing (referenced to GPS) can be observed. The complete RF signal
power (RSSI) can be measured as well as the signal code power (RSCP) for each individual
scrambling code.

NEM O O UT DOO R™ 4. 21 PRO DUCT DESCR IPT IO N 13

2.8 INDOOR MEASUREMENTS

Nemo Outdoor can be configured to support measurements inside buildings. The user can
choose to have Nemo Outdoor installed on a Tablet PC instead of a regular laptop. This makes
the system even more portable and lightweight.

Nemo Outdoor is ideal for indoor

measurements as well. Equipped with
a Tablet PC, the user can plot the
measurement route on a floorplan with
the click of a pen.

When performing measurements inside buildings, it is not practical to use a GPS receiver for
collecting location data. Therefore, the indoor measurement option offers a marker function that
can be used for plotting the measurement route on the map. With a Tablet PC the user can
place markers on the map with the click of a pen. It is also possible to import a bitmap image,
such as, a floorplan to be used as a map.

2.10 APPLICATION TESTING

Nemo Outdoor enables network operators to test their network using the same application
protocols as their customers and, therefore, provides results that correspond with the end-user
experience. Nemo Outdoor supports, e-mail, SMS, MMS, WAP, and PoC testing, FTP and
HTTP file transfers, RTSP streaming, streaming video quality, voice quality measurements,
video call and video call quality measurements, and ICMP ping measurements. The information
provided by Nemo Outdoor assists in the verification and troubleshooting of new services
reducing the time-to-market.

Application tests can be performed either manually or automatically by taking advantage of

user-definable scripts. For all protocols, key performance indicators, such as, data throughput,
access time, and success rate can be recorded simultaneously with the full radio network
information.

All services are supported in a single product, Nemo Outdoor, providing an easy-to-use,
consistent interface for configuring the different application. Different applications, such as,
voice, SMS, and packet-switched data can be launched in one measurement session to
simulate end-user behavior.

For example, MMS testing allows you to monitor how multimedia messages are transferred in
the network. MMS messages can be sent manually and with scripts. In addition to successfully
sent/received MMS messages, also sending/receiving attempts and sending/receiving failures
are recorded enabling statistical success rate calculations. Nemo Outdoor measures total MMS
sending delay. Also separate delays from attach, PDP context activation, logging to MMSC, and
message sending/receiving are recorded.

2.12 VOICE QUALITY (PESQ) MEASUREMENTS

Nemo Outdoor supports mobile-to-mobile and mobile-to-fixed-to-mobile voice quality

measurements in GSM, WCDMA, and CDMA2000 networks. The measurements enable the
assessment of the quality of voice during voice and video calls as perceived by end-users.
Voice quality measurements are especially useful for gathering statistical data on how the
network performs and for optimizing, for example, comfort noise generation or noise reduction
systems. The measurement is based on the ITU-T recommendation P.862.1 and it produces a
PESQ score that is mapped on an EMOS (Estimated Mean Opinion Score) scale.

The supported mobiles for voice quality measurements are Nokia 6125, 6136, 6230i, 6255i,
6280, 6630, 6650, 6651, 6680, 7600, N80, LG VX8100 and LG VX8300.

The Nemo Voice Quality system setup consists of Nemo Outdoor, 1-2 mobiles, 1-2 audio
modules, and the Nemo multi rack.

In mobile-to-mobile measurements, one terminal is calling another and the mobiles send a test
sample in one or both directions. These measurements present the combination of the uplink
quality of the transmitting terminal and the downlink quality of the receiving terminal.

In mobile-to-fixed-to-mobile measurements, a terminal calls a fixed number (PSTN) that is

connected to a Nemo Server with the Audiotest option. These measurements present the
downlink quality of the terminal at the Nemo Outdoor end, the uplink quality of the terminal at
the server end, and the downlink quality of the receiving terminal.

NEM O O UT DOO R™ 4. 21 PRO DUCT DESCR IPT IO N 18

2.13 STREAMING VIDEO QUALITY MEASUREMENTS

Nemo Outdoor offers support for streaming video quality. Nemo Outdoor measures the quality
of the streaming video sound and picture in real time using five different parameters: audio
MOS (1-5), video MOS (1-5), jerkiness (0-100%), blockiness (0-100%), and blurriness (0-
100%). Furthermore, Nemo Outdoor saves the test video stream to a file for further analysis.
Nemo Outdoor uses the perceptual evaluation of video quality (PEVQ) measurement
technology provided under license from Genista. The Genista technology provides perceptual
metrics and a Mean Opinion Score (MOS) for streaming video quality based on properties of
human visual system, and audio quality based on human audition. All metrics work without
reference signals, allowing nonintrusive, in-service measurements.
Streaming video quality can be measured with all terminals that have data capabilities.

NEM O O UT DOO R™ 4. 21 PRO DUCT DESCR IPT IO N 19

2.14 MISSING NEIGHBOR DETECTION

With Nemo Outdoor it is possible to perform real-time missing neighbor detection in GSM and
WCDMA networks simultaneously. All that is required is a scanner and a mobile. A scanner
scans all possible pilots whereas a mobile scans only channels that are on its neighbor list.
Nemo Outdoor compares these two measurements and, based on the data, reports the
neighbor channels that are seen by the scanner but are not in the mobile's neighbor list.

Nemo Outdoor displays the missing neighbors in a bar graph and also some important network
parameters, such as, BCCH arfcn (channel), BSIC, RX level, difference to strongest, Ec/No, and
RSCP related to the missing neighbors.

NEM O O UT DOO R™ 4. 21 PRO DUCT DESCR IPT IO N 20

2.15 IP PACKET CAPTURE

IP packet capturing is powerful feature for advanced users. With IP packet capturing, network
packets sent between IP addresses are captured to log files which can be browsed with a third
party application. A separate log file is generated for each terminal connected to Nemo Outdoor.
The log files generated for IP packet data are compatible with Wireshark® (also known as
Ethereal®). IP capturing is useful, for example, for network administrators in troubleshooting
network problems and examining security problems.

From the captured data it is possible to see, for example, the time between the first and last
packet, the number of packets sent, the average of packets sent per second, average packet
size, and delays.

Ethereal® is used by network professionals around the world for troubleshooting, analysis,
software and protocol development, and education. For further information please login to
www.ethereal.com, www.wireshark.org.

3 AUTOMATIC DEVICE DETECTION

Configuring and using Nemo Outdoor has been designed to provide the utmost convenience to
a new user as well as to more experienced users. The automatic device detection functionality
in Nemo Outdoor, accessed both through the Welcome page and the menu bar, automatically
detects devices connected to the PC and assigns the appropriate, previously created COM port
and dial-up information to them. As a consequence, for example, reassignment of COM ports to
the devices will no longer cause confusion for the user. In addition, the user does not need to
spend time on manually going through the same procedure, saving valuable time and optimizing
the experience of easy and intuitive use of Nemo Outdoor.

You can do the same functions as previously, i.e. start the devices online ready for
measurements, or choose to start measurements offline. The refresh button serves as a quick
remedy in case of, say, accidentally lost data cable connection.

4.1 MEASUREMENT WINDOWS

The measurement windows display useful information during the measurement process and
during playback. Windows can be adjusted and arranged to suit the user’s working
environment. View groups is a function that allows the organization of measurement windows
into different tabs for easier viewing. This is especially useful when there are several graphs
and maps open at the same time in the Nemo Outdoor main window.

Nemo Outdoor offers several methods for viewing measurement results: line graphs are
suitable for viewing parameters for which historical (past) values need to be seen, such as
serving cell RSSI value, bar graphs work especially well with multiple parameters which need to
be compared with each other, e.g. RSSI levels for neighboring cells, scatter plot graphs are
ideal for observing correlations between two or more parameters, and delay profile graphs are a
special type of graph for viewing delay profile information from CDMA systems.

www.anite.com/nemo – nemo.sales@anite.com
NEM O O UT DOO R™ 4. 21 PRO DUCT DESCR IPT IO N 26

Grids offer more detailed information on the measurement data. Events grids list, by default, all
measurement events, but the user can configure the view so that only events that are of special
interest are displayed. Parameters grids display selected network parameters. Statistics grids
list various statistics, such as the number of PDP context activation attempts, successes, and
failures from the measurement. Messages grids are used for observing layer 2 and 3,
RLC/MAC, and LLC messages. Table grids provide an easy way of simultaneously displaying
the same parameter values for multiple instances. For example, the neighbor list of a serving
cell can be displayed in a table grid so that each row represents one neighbor and each column
represents a parameter value (e.g., system, carrier, scrambling code, etc.).

In events and messages grids, the data can be analyzed even more in-depth by decoding the
individual events and messages simply by double-clicking the event in question. Event and
messages grids can also be color coded. Color coding can be done based on a certain
message, sub channel or decoded message.

NEM O O UT DOO R™ 4. 21 PRO DUCT DESCR IPT IO N 27

Furthermore, it is possible to copy grid data, such as, signaling, and export (paste) to MS Excel,
MS Word, etc. for further analysis. Signaling data can be copied in non-decoded or in decoded
format.

In addition, the user-defined parameters function offers more options for advanced users. A
user-defined string is searched in a decoded message, and the following value is returned. The
parameter can be displayed in info view and graph side panel.

4.2 MAPS
When Nemo Outdoor is used with a GPS receiver and positioning coordinates are collected, the
measurement route is drawn on a map and the user can easily correlate events to location
coordinates.

Nemo Outdoor offers parameter-based route coloring. This means that users can observe the
values of certain network parameters from the route coloring on the map. Users can define
which color refers to which parameter value. This way it is easy to spot the problem areas on a
map. To make analysis even simpler, the same route can be drawn several times on the map
and different route coloring can be applied to each of them. Also certain events can be shown
as icons on the map.

Base station icons

can be displayed
on a map. Also, a
line from the test
vehicle to the
serving and
neighbor BTS can
be drawn.

Nemo Outdoor maps can also display a base station overlay. With a user-defined BTS file, the
map shows the location of each base station, the defined antennas with antenna directions, and
even antenna apertures and cell identifying parameters. During drive testing or playback, a line
connecting the current location to the serving and/or neighbor cell (sector) will be drawn

automatically (in CDMA systems, even multiple lines can be drawn to active sectors). This
provides a highly visual impression of the network operation. For example, it can be instantly
seen if a call is connected to a non-optimal cell.

Nemo Outdoor supports MapInfo® raster and vector maps. It also supports MapX Geoset files
(.gst) which enable the user to open several layers on a map and then save them all in a .gst file
to be opened later on. All user-defined map settings, such as, the order of the different map
layers and the zoom factor are stored in the .gst file.

For indoor measurements, you can import a floorplan and use that as a map. Nemo Outdoor
supports markers, which allows the user to easily correlate events to positioning coordinates.
The measurement route will be drawn on a map based on the user-defined markers. The route
can be colored based on parameter values and event notifications icons can be displayed on
the map.

4.3 NOTIFICATIONS
Nemo Outdoor can be configured to play audio notifications or voice prompts whenever a
certain event occurs. The voice prompts are Windows .wav files, and in Nemo Outdoor both
female and male default notification sounds are available. However, you can record and use
your own voice notifications instead of the default files as well. The voice prompts help you
during a drive testing to notice immediately when something special happens. Custom
notifications can also prove useful when creating a script file. For example, the user can set a
video call to start only when it is supported by a cellular technology.

5 NEMO OPEN FILE FORMAT

Nemo Outdoor produces measurement files in an open ASCII file format. Files can be directly
imported to Nemo analysis tool Nemo Analyze as well as to various third party post-
processing/analysis tools. This is accomplished without any separate conversion or parsing of
the files. Furthermore, measurement files from multiple test drives can be opened in Nemo
Analyze as individual files and shown side by side or used in statistical quality survey report
generator which saves the trouble of combining all measurements into one big and
cumbersome file.

A detailed description of the file format is included in the product user documentation. The file
format description contains all recorded events and their parameters.
