Subject: Interview Reflection at Business Symposium

Analysis

As a naive individual maneuvering through the waters of our society in search of my

identity, I feel that the ability to maintain an open mindset is one that empowers an individual to

float above adversity. Such notions were accentuated in my conversation with Mr.Langley

during the breakout session of business symposium. Throughout the interview, I established my

aspirations of infusing the power of humanity in my medical endeavors and my dreams of

working in underdeveloped countries. However, my conversation enabled me to recognize the

discrepancies between our visions and the truth of reality. I feel that this enlightenment is one

that resonates with me because it compelled me to introspect and understand who I truly am.

In response to a question that I asked regarding how our realization of our ambitions

occurs, Mr.Langley professed that it occurs through our understanding of what we attain

satisfaction from. In that sense, despite how profound I currently believe my passion for

medicine is; it’s important to underscore that as I continue to culminate an identity, these

ambitions are subject to change. To elaborate upon, my visions for bridging the inaccessibility of

healthcare and appreciation for the journey of human life could very well translate to pursuits in

fields ranging from advocacy from patient rights to the establishment of a non-profit. In essence,

I feel that discovering a seamless balance between clarity of one’s goals and a sense of ambiguity

is what enables the cultivation of one’s purpose in life. To me, it’s infusing a mind to your soul
and it's adherence to the passions burning in the deepest abyss of your heart while enabling life

to guide you. These sentiments were echoed through Mr.Langley’s analogy to life as a race in

which you encounter anguish in the manifestation of shin splints; pain that can be numbed

through your mental tenacity or eradicated through your realization of being in the wrong race.

For Mr.Langley, this awakening occurred during his undergraduate pursuits in biology and his

recognition of his lack of satisfaction towards his major. Mr.Langley’s experiences and

perspectives fostered a mentality within me that constantly seeks for an assessment of the

alignment of my passions with my soul. I think that the emergence of this mentality is rooted

from stepping outside of one’s comfort zone to truly embrace the beautiful diversity and

adversity that constitutes the concoction of one’s journey. Whether you are a custodian or a

CEO, the embracement of this journey is what truly encapsulates your joy and purpose in life.

On that account, I felt like a rejuvenated person that was instilled with an unprecedented

sense of confidence that I derived from my interaction with Mr.Langley. The advice that he

offered has laid the foundation for how I aspire to approach my ISM journey. As I interact with

professionals in the field of cardiology, I hope to not only gain insight into what it takes to

achieve my ambitions, but to rather foster a connection to how I have grown as an individual.

Furthermore, I want to step outside of my comfort zone in these interactions in order to truly

develop a bond with the professional by being proactive and pushing aside my inhibitions. In that

sense, I will continue to nurture my love for cardiology while piecing the puzzle of my identity

together. Simply put, it is an acknowledgement of the power of wading through the

unpredictable waters of life.
