English
Tomorrow, you will be editing and revising your Creature Alliteration

order to prepare for editing your poems, I would like you to take some
time today to practice your editing skills. Correct the mistakes in the
following sentences and rewrite them on the lines below. Make sure to
check for capital letters (at the beginning of sentences, and for proper
nouns), punctuation at the end of each sentence (exclamation mark,
period, or question mark), quotation marks when someone is speaking,
proper spelling, commas, and proper word order.

Social Studies (Wednesday and Thursday)
Last class, we started learning about early Canadian settlers.
Remember, a settler is a person who moves to a new place and plans to
stay there and help build a new community. Many of the early
Canadian settlers came to Canada from England, France, Scotland and
Ireland. They moved to Canada for a number of different reasons.

I asked you at the end of Monday’s lesson if you thought you were a
settler in Hong Kong. If you answered “no,” then you are correct! We
will talk some more about this later.

I also asked you if you thought it was easy for the settlers to move from
their home countries to build a new community in Canada. I’d like you
to think about your answer and then watch the video below (also
posted below today’s lesson plan).

As you can see, it was NOT easy.

Activity:

Think about the video you just watched. In the boxes below, describe
the things Henry and his family might have seen, heard, smelled,
tasted, and touched on his journey to Upper Canada. How did Henry
and his family feel? This work is not due until the end of the day on
Thursday, so please take your time!

Extra Practice: Modelling Division

Today in Mathematics, we will continue with our unit on Multiplication
and Division. Our focus for this lesson will continue to be on modelling
division.
Please complete the Lesson 8: Modelling Division Practice Questions
page found below today’s lesson plan.

Science
Today in Science class we will answer the question: How do seeds
travel?

By now, you should know that a seed is the small part of a flowering
plant that grows into a new plant. A seed contains everything a plant
needs to start growing, except for air and water.

If a plant were to drop its seeds right on the ground below it, there
would not be enough space, food or water for the new seed to grow.
The plant that dropped the seeds, the parent plant, is already using
those things up. So, the seeds need to travel to a new place where they
have enough soil, space, air, water, and sunlight to grow into a new
plant. This is called SEED DISPERSAL.

But, how do seeds travel? Well seeds travel by air, wind, water or with
the help of animals!

Activity

2. Draw a picture and use words to explain 4 different ways that
seeds can travel. You can use a chart like the one below to
organize your answers.
