Introduction: My research is about how teens these days no longer
associate with individual parties. Instead, they do not/ vote for who they like. As in being independent on the party association scheme of things. Now I chose this topic because we went over this fact in AP Gov this day. I myself have always understood that I know not a single thing about politics. So when I heard most other teens are ignorant like me I felt I needed to prove this with this project being the perfect medium. Hypothesis: Teachers are more inclined to side with one political party (either Rep or Dem, Independent, & Other.) While students are not more inclined to side with a single party. Method: To test the hypothesis 5 teachers & 5 students will be surveyed. Age is not a factor in this random selection. The surveyors get asked the same question, ¨What political party do you most associate with?¨ With selections being either Rep or Dem, Independent, & Other. The surveys will take place at Lake Shore High School on Thursday, January 16th, 2020. The why again is to prove whether teens associate with either of our Two Party Systems or if they are independents because I myself do not know much about politics and wonder if my peers will. Along with proving if teachers lean more towards a Two Party system as opposed to being an independent. Results: Out of the 5 teachers surveyed 3 chose the Two Party system, 1 chose the Independent choice, and 1 chose the Other choice. Out of the 5 students surveyed 3 chose the Independent choice and 2 chose the Two Party system. Conclusion: To summarize my hypothesis it was to find out if more students would choose Independent than teachers choosing Two Party System vice versa. My results concluded that the number of those x and y variables being teachers and students showed x=y in terms of my hypothesis. Now, this neither proved nor disproved my hypothesis to be correct as it was a tie. But that does not include the fact that over 60% of each x and y choices chose the respective party associations as presumed. So that is a good thing to mention but again my hypothesis was inconclusive. A problem on my end was not surveying enough people. I do still feel that more students should have picked Independent than teachers picking Two Party System, so next time I should try to survey a whole class. And the teachers individually. Along with the individuality factor, I feel I should have done this survey online. Not only was almost losing these slips of paper a number of times an issue, but I feel me hounding over people waiting for them to choose a system might have swayed them to quickly chose and not really use the other selection if they truly were. When it is online people feel much more inclined to take their time I believe. So again how I may fix my research in the future would be from entire class online surveys. This should be able to prove my hypothesis if I went this route...
