PDS Client on Windows 8 Intergraph

PPM Services
Revised Date: 02/02/15

________________________________________________________________

I. PURPOSE
This procedure describes the workflow required to install, setup, and run PDS on a Windows 8 computer
running UAC. Please note that most of these settings are the same settings and workflows required for
earlier windows operating systems, including XP.

Software:
Microstation J 07.01.05.03
RIS Client 06.01.00.02
Batch services 06.01.08.00
SPLM v12.00.16.00
PDS latest Windows 8 Version 12.00.01.XX

2. INSTALLATION

1. Log in as an administrator with local administration rights on the computer.

2. Install Adobe Reader.

3. Create the temp folder, preferably on the C:\ drive. Make sure that the security of the folder allows
the users write, read, and execute access; this should include the Intergraph Batch Manager
account. Also, create a share to this folder with the same permissions.

4. Create the following directories:

• C:\win32app\
• C:\win32app\ingr\
• C:\win32app\ingr\share\

5. Modify the registry as follows:

 Add a new key to the registry. Create a string value within that key named Common with a
value of C:\win32app\ingr\share to the following registry key:
For a x86 (32 bit OS)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Intergraph\
For a 64 Bit OS
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Intergraph\

 Add a new DWORD value named DisableUNCCheck to the registry. Use a value of 1 for the
following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Command Processor\

This is called DWORD (32-bit) Value on a 64 bit system)

 Modify the following registry entry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurePipeServers\WINREG

This modification is required for PDS to resolve node names and paths into UNC paths for
non-administrator users.

There are three recommended methods for modifying this key.

1. Add the shares on the server to the allowed paths in the WINREG key

To add all allowed paths, add System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanManServer\Shares

as the value for the AllowedPaths key in the WINREG entry.
2. Grant access permissions to the users or user groups from within the Registry Editor
3. Delete the WINREG key

6. *Install SmartPlant License Manager

To use a license to run PDS applications after installation, you must run SPLM.
1. Right-click the Start menu item, and select Run as administrator.
User Access Control prompts you to run this executable.
2. Click Yes.
The SmartPlant License Manager dialog box displays.
3. Click Configure and Test, and then click Select.
The Configure and Test Options dialog box displays.
4. Click Select License Machine for Client, and then click Select.
The Select License Machine for Client dialog box displays.
5. Type the name of the licensing computer in the License machine box, and click OK.

7. *Install Microstation J

: A complete installation is required

8. *Install RIS Client

To use RIS after installation, you must point to the Schemas file.
1. Run RIS Schema Manager from the RIS folder in the windows Start menu.
2. Choose a Schema file.
3. Click Show Schema File Location on the window that displays, and then click Next
below the Locate Schema File label.
4. Type the path to the schema file, including its name, in the Schema File Name box.

9. *Install Intergraph Batch Manager

10. *Install PDS Applications

To run PDS after installation, the application must be set up to point to the appropriate pds.cmd
file. You must also set up the batch queues.

To set up the pds.cmd file:

1. Click PDS Configure under the PD_Shell Start menu folder.
User Access Control prompts you to run this executable.
2. Click Yes.
3. Set up the path to the pds.cmd file, and click Update Registry Entry for Local Machine
on the bottom of the dialog box.
This sets the location of the cmd file for anyone that has not already chosen to point the
registry entry to their Current User profile in the registry.
Current User entries override the Local Machine entries for pointing to the
pds.cmd file.

To set up the PDS Batch Queues on a Windows 8 computer:

1. An administrator must run PD_Shell or PDS Queue from the Start menu for the first
time.
The link in the Windows Start menu folder automatically asks for elevation of the
application. User Access Control prompts you to run this executable.
2. Click Yes.
The software allows you to setup the queues.
If you run this application without queues created, and you are not an administrator
for the machine, the queue creation process will fail. Also note that if PDS2D was
installed on the machine, the path variable in environment variables for the user running
the create PDS Queue command must have the pdshell path variable (normally
"c:\win32app\ingr\pdshell\share") before the PDS2D variable (normally
"c:\win32app\ingr\pds2d\binnt") for the PDS Queue creation command to work properly.

* You should be prompted by User Access Control to approve the installation of this software.

Reminder: you need to change the temp and tmp variable to point to c:\temp for System variables
and for ALL Users that might need to work on this computer.
