INTRODUCTION

The Dominican Carnival is one of the most colorful traditions and most cheerful
celebrations in the Dominican Republic. The entire town participates in it, which
launches into the streets to enjoy, share and celebrate with joy.

Its greatest intensity occurs at the end of the month of February in its last weekend,
although depending on the region, it is celebrated every weekend of the month of
February and even until the beginning of March. There are other particular dates in
which some populations celebrate isolated carnivals, but with the same creativity and
enthusiasm shown in February throughout the nation.

But February is the month of Carnival in the Dominican Republic and jubilation and
the massive celebration in the streets and social clubs are the hallmark that
distinguishes these dates. Nobody is at home. Everyone is on the streets.
Multicultural Carnival 2020

The Open University for Adults UAPA and the Agency for Social, Solidarity and
Sustainable Tourism, TURISSOL, had the immense pleasure of inviting us to the
celebration of the Multicultural Carnival 2020, with presentations from different
countries.

The entire event was led by facilitator Orelvi Arvelo Rojas, who introduced us and
delighted with each and every presentation and his great sense of humor.

To begin with the event, we obtained the presentation of the carnival dance of the
boys from Rio San Juan; Then Chinese representatives of the Confucius Institute of
the Intec University and those who told us about what the institute is, and also their
cultures and customs in their home country of China.
We also shared a very pleasant experience with characters from Venezuela who
also visited us and shared cultural comparisons between both countries and
especially carnival.
And finally, we had the participation and representation of the Haitian community
who, shared their customs and meals of their country Haiti
Conclusion

The Carnival celebration has its probable origin in pagan festivals, such as those
held in honor of Bacchus, the God of wine, the saturnians and the Roman Lupercal,
or those held in honor of the Apis ox in Egypt.

The Dominican carnival is the celebration of the most vibrant Dominican culture and
identity. It is a time where Dominicans of all ages and regions of the country throw
themselves into the streets, in their villages or in carnivals of nearby towns, to enjoy
parades with their relatives and loved ones.
