BUCKET LOADER
BACK to
APPLICATION
Solution & Procedure
CastoDur™ CDP 4666 wear strips were attached to the bucket using
EutecTrode® 680 with a cap of XHD® AbraTec™ N6715.
Advantage
The CDP 4666 strips can be bent and installed easily and will give
significantly better performance than the standard chrome carbide wear
plate. This solution has greatly increased the lifetime of the bucket.

Solution & Procedure
Once the base metal composition and welding procedures have been
determined, the crack or spalled-out area is ground and prepared for welding.
Heating coils are attached, and the weld area is preheated in accordance
with the prescribed welding procedures. All welding is done with Xuper®
NucleoTec® 2222 high fatigue strength electrodes. Each weld is peened, and
a final check of the repair is dye-penetrant tested.
Advantage
Cracks in the low alloy (heat-treatable) steel can be repaired without
deformation of the base metal.

Solution & Procedure
Remove old material using Exotrode® AC/DC and prepare the surface for
welding. Using EnDOtec® DO*66, attach and/or rebuild the bit holders to the
cutting head.
Advantage
This method decreases labor costs while improving the life of the part. The
EnDOtec process provides higher deposition rates with better welding
characteristics. Additionally, this process increases the life of the part
threefold – from 7 days to 21 days.

After grinding to remove contaminants, deposit a single stringer bead of
EnDOtec® DO*30. The part should be allowed to cool before each
subsequent layer is deposited. Speed dot and stringer bead patterns are
preferred.
Advantage
A hardfacing weld pattern using EnDOtec® DO*30 wire on each tooth
dramatically increases service life, which also reduces bucket downtime.

Solution & Procedure
Parts are prepared in various ways, depending on specific requirements and
crack or fracture loaction. Using the Eutalloy® UltraJet® spray-and-fuse
process, repair areas are prepared with BronzoChrom™ 10185 then filled
with Nitec™ 10224 powdered alloy. Repairs can then be machined to
dimension and/or drilled as required.
Advantage
The Eutalloy® spray-and-fuse process using BronzoChrom™ 10185 and
Nitec™ 10224 powdered alloys is an ideal repair solution, as there is little
risk of deformation to the cast iron parts and deposits are machinable. Cost
savings of repair versus replacement parts are considerable.

Description of the Problem
EUTECTIC
The edges of the bucket lips were worn after less than a year and had to be
built up with bar stock to maintain production. They were about to be
replaced with new buckets.
BACK to
APPLICATION
Solution & Procedure
Replacement lips were fabricated from EutecDur® ED-1000 wear plates, bent
to fit inside the worn bucket. They were then welded into place using fixtures
to achieve the same height dimensions for all buckets before being
reassembled on the conveyor chains.
Advantage
Replacement lips, formed from EutecDur® ED-1000 wear plate, resulted in
better-than-new buckets (with double to triple the wear life) at a much lower
cost than with new bucket replacement.

CLASSIFIERS SEPARATOR
BACK to
APPLICATION
Solution & Procedure
To maintain the low weight of the classifier, a thin coating of very hard
tungsten carbide needs to be applied to the blades. The thinness of the
blades implies that a low-heat coating process be used to prevent distortion.
Cold spraying of MetaCeram® 29123 powder with a bond coat and HVOF
with WC-Co is an effective solution.
Advantage
This procedure is now used on new OEM parts.
There has been a 300 to 400 perent increase in the lifetime of the classifier.
This not only results in savings of replacement costs and downtime
expenses, but also increases the operation efficiency of the classifier.

DISCHARGE PIPES & BALL MILL

TYPE OF WEAR BASE METAL
EROSION CARBON-MANGANESE
CRUSHING STEEL
Description of the Problem
EUTECTIC
At the discharge end of the finish mill are large suction pipes which pull the
material from the mill and transport it to the separator. These pipes move
large quantities of very abrasive material and wear very rapidly (often in as
little as three or four months.)
BACK to
APPLICATION
Solution & Procedure
Grind the exterior surface to remove all paint and rust. Apply 1/4”-3/8” layer
of AbraCor® Formula 5 with Kevlar® cold-repair composite onto 1/4” mesh
hardware screen. Apply the screen patch around the elbow (full 180˚), with
the patch centered over the maximum wear area and at least 1” beyond the
wear area. Fasten the screen into place.
Advantage
Pipes repaired in place with AbraCor® Formula 5 composite have now been in
service for more than two years, with little or no apparent wear of the actual
composite patch. When the pipes are coated a full 360˚, the wear life may
be as much as 10 to 20 times the life of an uncoated steel pipe.
