CHAPTER I : INTRODUCTION

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Social media are interactive computer- mediated technologies that facilitate the
creation or sharing of information, ideas, career interests and other forms of expression
via virtual communities and networks.
According to the study of Has me et al (2015) entitled “the Impact of social
media on the Academic Development of social student social media is an online
platform that people used to communicate and interact with each other giving them an
opportunity to exchange opinion using online accounts.
The earliest methods of communicating across great distances used written
correspondence delivered by hand from one person to another. In other words, letters.
The earliest form of postal service dates back to 550 B.C., and this primitive delivery
system would become more widespread and streamlined in future centuries.
In 1792, the telegraph was invented. This allowed messages to be delivered over a long
distance far faster than a horse and rider could carry them. Although telegraph messages
were short, they were a revolutionary way to convey news and information.
Social media is good for a business but it can also be a scam in the company and also
many people believe that they can’t protect their privacy online.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Social media changes the way people interact with each other by offering more
convenience but less quality. With social media, it is quicker and simpler to contact
people, while easier to meet new individuals as well. Ultimately, however, Social media
provides people with less interpersonal skills, a lack of conflict resolution and very little
privacy. Social media diminishes the constitution of social interaction for the modern
generations. With social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other apps on
site. The reason why the researchers come up with a question: What is the positive and
negative effect of social media?

ASSUMPTIONS
SCOPE AND DELIMINATION
This study is focused on the student who using social media in South East Asia
Institute of Trade and Technology.

As researchers, the participant is limited just the student who using social media in
South East Asia during school year 2019-2020. STUDENT were chosen to provide
insights and information regarding to the study that aims to investigate students’ wanted
to know what is the impact of social media to high school students in South East Asia.
IMPORTANCE OF THE STUDY
The importance of our topic is to inform every student that social media is very
important into our lives and the impact of social media. Social media is to accelerate
communication across the country. And it will facilitate the learning of teachers and
students as much as social media can help one by making communication easier and
more.
DEFINITION OD TERMS
Social media is a collection of internet based communities that allow user to
interact with each other online. However the term is most often used to describe popular
social networking website, which include the following;

Facebook - it I share video photo and post on each other profile pages, or “Timelines”

Twitter- People allows publishing quick updates and seeing post or “Tweets” of other
user they are following in real – time.

LinkedIn- It is a professional networking website and you’ll allow creating profile,

posting resume and communicating with other professionals and solo seekers.

Pinterest- An online community that allows users to share idea and photos with other by
“Pinning” items and describing them on their profile pages.

we're going to conduct a survey for our research for us to know the opinion of

other student is for research is. Survey is the easiest way for us to gather

information for us to know the other opinions of other student for a social media, if

social media is helping for every student? Or is it the good for the student.

Validation

we will provide a questioner for some student of south east Asia trade of

technology institute and before we distribute the questioner we will ask first our

adviser if the questions is suit to our topic

TREATMENT OF DATA

We researchers wants to gather datas or information about the impact of social media

to high school students. The instrument we used was survey with some questions related
to our topic. Researchers wants to know about the impacts of social medias to students if

it is good or bad for their studies, "or if it's helping them or just distracting them in the

real world." Researchers collected the answers that the students gave based on their

opinions and experience on using social medias. We listed the answers and analyzed the

data to be finished
